Sewing instructions and projects

Step by step photographs for crafting book (See previous) on sewing clothing and other home goods for the visually inclined learner. Advice on altering where and how, as well as the transition steps between stages of the craft.

Knitting instructions and projects

(picture from old camera, have better lens now) - Knitting step by step for the visually inclined crafter over the one that simply follows written instructions. Taking photographs that show the transition steps, tools and finished projects - then advancing to showing the process bit by bit. Craft book I am working on - that will sort of cover the technique of making, science applied to the dextrous arts...

Flowering nature of bean breeds and development

Identifying the flowers and structures of different breeds of heirloom beans and the development of plant from seed sprout to flowering and production.

Bees in pollination

Bees pollinating in corn, squash, sunflowers and beans Multiple photographs over a multitude of plants.

Knitted gloves

Fourth pair of knitted gloves, useful, practical, distinctive.

Childrens hooded coat

Used general measurements and instructions to turn purchased yarn into a hooded coat with button up front for four year old child. Object was immediately put into use and worked and washed well. This is the second coat made for this child, first that has the hood on it.

Four by six foot afghan

Nearly queen size - worked on this afghan from October to present after completing a smaller one earlier in the year. Using scraps of other projects and some purchased skeins this is an item that will be put into house use (and already is when being worked on) immediately.

Circular bed pillow

Actually crochet - but I use both interchangeably in projects at times, Crocheted a round bed pillow using washable yarn, made a pillow insert to fit, completed project and put into use.

Production of three winter dresses for 5 year old child

Made alterations to 1960 Butterick 3200 sewing pattern for 5 year old child, used prints and solids to design three long sleeved dresses. Assembled and sewed dresses over course of week (I work full time elsewhere, as well). First dress fit fine and others followed exactly. After this, designed three jumpers (some using scraps of other fabrics) and made five pairs of pants using leg and waist measurements.

Reworking of flange area for toilet installed in concrete floor

Toilet was rocking and not level. Regular tile flange was too large for this application. Toilet shims would not stay in place. Measured difference with available paper and measuring tape - deduced that vinyl composite tile would be the right thickness. Obtained materials and pulled toilet off of flange. Took footprint template of toilet and cut out of vinyl composite tile. Cut tile to the proper footprint and reinstalled toilet with VCT riser. Toilet was firm and steady. Caulked around bottom of toilet to secure. Checked back with user several times and toilet was still firm, steady and sealed.

Repair of Kohler pinoir series toilet

Customer had complaints that the flush valve on his toilet was not repairable with after market parts. Customer wanted to inquire about real Kohler parts but did not know where to look on item to find information. Took model numbers from inside tank, identified object and repair parts - called Kohler for updated parts on some discontinued items. Asked customer further questions about items in the toilet he was having trouble with and ordered new flushing handle assembly as well as he had trouble with it but had been unable to find one better. This handle was slightly different than other models - enough to be unique. Customer received parts in mail and were installed returning toilet to original working order.

Repair of older sterling plumbing 2 handle 1950s shower

Customer brought tub spout and one handle with stem to me with hopes of repair. I located the patent number on the tub spout, connected it and the marking 'sterling' with a model that appeared similar online. Used pliers to pry stem out of handle for inspection. Found stem used for the similar model and verified that the stem was identical. Found vendor that sold part, obtained pricing and ordering information. Customer reported that faucet was saved in working order.

Incorporation of handicapped shower into second bathroom

Couple wishes to sell their two bath house in a retirement area and are looking to remove the tub in the second bath and replace with a handicapped rated shower. Had questions about sizing and if this would increase the value of the home. Indicated they would need to pay special attention to the shower door for such a unit if they wanted it truly handicapped it should not have a door... and also watch the walkway in the now smaller room remains unobstructed from doorway so a wheelchair may get to shower. This information was helpful to them and helped them see exactly what would be needed to achieve their goal. Located an ADA stall and gave them dimension worksheet to take home for further measurements.

Drain designs for two story remodeler house

Drain and vent placement for hooking up two story remodeler house to new pipe. The house will receive all new sewer plumbing to the new additions and efficiency was required as there was very little crossover space for the second story drains to come down and meet up with existing plumbing. The showers and washing machine were very close together - so good venting was needed.

Handmade crafts book

Shooting pictures for presentation of a craft book - cumulative work over several years.

Planning out the alterations to the size 5 dress.

I took the idea down on paper how I would like to alter the size 5 dress for Elizabeth. The diagram shows what needs to be done to the original pattern to make it better for her.

Sewing a set of late winter dresses for Esme

I am making four dress tops and pairs of matching pants for Esme, who is a size 4 vintage by her measurements. Three are long-sleeved and one is short-sleeved. These have tie-backs and zippers and 'twirl' skirts. There are three in different blue fabrics and one in red with a brown skirt. There are two balterations of one 1970 Simplicity pattern with different necklines, shoulders.

Altering a size 5 pattern from 1967.

This is one of my 'SewRetro' projects. I am making a circa 1967 size 5 dress for my niece and using photographs and measurements to alter it correctly.
