Projects

Teacher

 12 years teaching in rural Limpopo for mostly previously disadvantaged black
learners
 The majority of the learners came from very challenging backgrounds : broken
homes / families, abuse, domestic violence and confusion regarding ‘traditional’
versus ‘modern’ ways and behaviour (many are raised by grandparents)
 To address these challenges, teacher-parent -; teacher-learner -; teacher-
learner-parent - and teacher-learner-parent-management consultations played a
vital role.
 As Head of Department I was involved in these consultations and also had to
liaise and communicate with the relevant Department of Education.

• While teaching at Stanford Lake College (Independent IEB school), I was also
involved in an outreach programme for the community (one of the Round Square
ideals)
 We followed a SMILE programme where we taught children basic skills through
activities and play (sport, song and dance) (SLC Gr 11 learners were involved)

 I also initiated a soup kitchen and, with the help and donations of SLC learners,
we prepared huge amounts of food in the boarding house kitchen for distribution
to needy families in the community (many HIV/ Aids orphans).
