As a principal I reported to the Director, Al Maktoum Foundation, Kenya head office. I performed the following duties and responsibilities supervising teachers, support staff and students of the school. The nature and scope of my job was serving as the educational leader, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students were supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula of the ministry of education. Achieving academic excellence required that as a school principal I work collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff under my authority and to communicate effectively with parents. Inherent in the position I had the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, core-curricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

My job functions and responsibilities were as follows
• Establishing and promoting high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
• Managing, evaluating and supervising effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate.
• Supervising the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes (teaching, as duties allow) on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.

• Being a returning officer at the examination centres;
• Being responsible to the District Education Officer, and by delegation, to the council, for the proper conduct of the examination the specific examination centres;
• Witnessing the opening of green bags/boxes at the distribution centre;
• Conducting examinations strictly in conformity with KNEC regulations and instructions;
• Briefing invigilators at the examination centres a day before the examinations starts;
• Daily collecting the question papers for the day from distribution centres;
• Ensuring security when the examinations are in progress;
• Ensuing that the head teachers of the school inspect the examination room's everyday before the examination starts to ensure that there are no materials left lying around the examination room and/or in the candidates' desks including mobile phones, removal of any charts on the walls and obliterating of any writing on the chalkboards or desks;
• Supervision of frisking of candidates as they enter the examination rooms for every examination session as per the required policy on gender issues;
• Ensuring that the random index numbers used by candidates are pasted on their desks appropriately;
• Witnessing the opening of green bags/boxes at the distribution centers
• Preventing examination irregularities and if such cases arise, handling them in the manner specified by the council;
• Ensuring question papers are distributed to candidates through invigilators and ensuring that the spare question papers are sealed and placed in front of the class in the examination room;
• Ensuring that no unauthorized persons have accesses to questions while the examination is in progress. This includes teachers in the school;
