Marc Moran

South Newbury, Newbury, NH 03255, USA

Under the direction of current owners Marc and Meredith Moran, Hopewell Farms maintains an enduring commitment to conservation, self-sufficiency, and environmental sustainability. Supporting a variety of socially conscious practices, Hopewell is situated on 50 acres of land in Newbury, New Hampshire. Marc Moran’s dedication to preserving the natural environment, enhancing the local economy, and feeding the community has led Hopewell Farms to become one of the most respected open farms in the country. Recently named a New Hampshire Farm of Distinction, it has also become New Hampshire’s first Animal Welfare Approved Farm.

Hopewell Farms offers an array of organically produced heirloom fruits and vegetables, grass-fed heritage meats, and pasture-raised chickens and eggs. In addition to a wide selection of locally produced specialty and seasonal items such as homemade cheese, fresh cider, artisanal vinegar, maple syrup, and hand-cut firewood, the farm offers three distinct types of tilapia: blue, white, and red butterball. Widely recognized as the state’s premier producer of farm-raised tilapia, Hopewell raises every fish in an advanced aquaculture facility. The fish are harvested on-site and are completely free of hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals, and genetic modifications.

Furthering his commitment to efficiency and sustainability, Marc Moran has also equipped Hopewell Farms with a number of renewable energy sources. Alongside a 3.7-kilowatt wind turbine and a comprehensive solar thermal heating system, the farm generates and stores power through a network of rooftop photovoltaic solar panels and backup batteries. Since assuming ownership of the farm, Mr. Moran has already achieved his goal of transforming Hopewell into an entirely energy self-sufficient operation. In the future, he plans to increase energy output by installing a new generator designed to capture the area’s substantial hydroelectric potential.
