Domestic Energy Assessor
A Domestic Energy Assessor is commissioned by the householder, owner or their Agent to carry out an energy assessment when a property is about to come onto the market for sale or rent. The property owner is obliged to make an Energy Performance Certificate available to buyers and tenants. DEAs are key in helping homebuyers, homeowners and tenants contribute to the “green agenda".
The assessment involves drawing up a floor plan, working out the total floor area, noting whether any insulation is present and recording the hot water and heating types. This data is then dropped into specialist software which produces the EPC. The EPC is valid for 10 years unless any thermal element is upgraded, a revised Certificate would then be required.
