Manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and its related products are of great demand in the modern society, these products need to be manufactured only in small quantities but with high degree of purity and free from contaminants. TETRAETHYL THIURUM MONOSULFIDE (MONOSULFIRAM) is one such pharmaceutical product that is used in various skin care soaps. The production of this compound requires two important chemicals namely DIETHYL DITHIO CARBAMOYL CHLORIDE (DECC) and SODIUM DIETHYL DITHIO CARBAMATE (SDEDC), these are in turn derived chemicals which need to be manufactured first. The production of DECC involves a lot of methods which are very tedious and problematic, the precipitation of sulphur and its presence in the final mass of DECC makes the process a real challenge. DECC is generally produced from TETRA ETHYL THIRUM DISULFIDE by oxidative cleavage using a strong oxidizing agent at mild temperatures. To remove the problems of contaminations and sulfur removal and also to improve conversion the use of solvent such as CCL4 can be used. The process is completely modified by using ccl4 as a solvent rather than the conventional reaction mechanism to yield better results.
