•Leaching tests for soil samples (TCLP and Acid rain extractions).
•Environmental work analysing effluent water and solid samples for elements such as arsenic (SDDC method), hexavalent chromium (UV-Vis), and compound such as cyanide (UV-VIS) and fluorides (ISE – Ion Selective electrode).
•EDTA titrations for Al, Ca and Mg in effluent water samples. Also done oxygen absorbed (OA) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in effluent water samples.
•Conducting pH, conductivity, alkalinity, turbidity, suspended solids and total dissolved solids on effluent water samples.
•Preparation of solid samples using acid digestions.
•Analysis of solid and liquid samples for various elements on the atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) including low-level selenium by Hydride generation and low-level mercury by Cold vapor.
•Analysis of solid and liquid samples for various elements on the ICP-OES.
•Performing analysis using GC and HPLC techniques.
•Performing analysis using a Segmented Flow Analyzer (SFA) to analyse effluent samples from the factory site, nearby streams and rivers for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites.
•Conducting routine performance check/ calibration of laboratory equipment.
•Gained a good understanding of laboratory practice procedures and quality control procedures principles for ISO 9000 as present company is certified by SABS.
•Have knowledge of the LIMS system.


•Instrumentation: AAS (2 years), ICP-OES (2 years), UV-Vis, SFA (2years), XRF, ISE (2 years), TOC (1year), GC and HPLC (1year).
