Dr M.S. Hashem graduated from Cairo University School of Medicine in 1977, and finished his Master Degree in Cardiology from Cairo University in 1982. Dr Hashem earned the Doctorate Degree (Ph.D./MD) in Cardiovascular Medicine from Al-Azhar University School of Medicine in 1993. His clinical and research interests include Hypertension; Dyslipidemia and Echocardiography.
Dr Hashem completed an Echocardiography Research Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of California at San Diego Medical Center, in April 1998. He became an elected Fellow of the American College of Cardiology in January 1999.
Following visits and collaboration with Dr DeMaria at the University of California, San Diego in 1994 and 1998 (Past President, American College of Cardiology), Dr Hashem initiated several therapeutic and diagnostic cardiac modalities at EBH, in KSA, including: Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography in 1994; Ambulatory BP monitoring in 1995; and Contrast Echocardiography in 1999. In cooperation with the hospital’s Clinical Laboratory he introduced the use of pro-BNP and quantitative CRP in HF and CAD patients, since 2002.
In 2003, Dr Hashem received invitation from the Organizing Committee of the American College of Cardiology to participate as moderator at the Debate Session on Contrast Echocardiography.
Dr Hashem is the lead author on 28 scientific papers and abstracts. His work was presented at several international meetings, including the European Society of Cardiology Annual Congress in 2002 and in 2004, as well as Euro-Stroke 2011 in Hamburg and recently at the American Society of Echocardiography in Maryland USA (July 2012).
