My skill is working with children on the Autism Spectrum exhibiting behavior problems. I do observations, teacher team meetings, parent meetings, then create the FBA. Next, I review the IEP and see if the student is receiving OT, Speech, etc. Working with the child 1:1 is usually my next step in helping to develop his Behavior Intervention Plan. Data is collected. BIP meeting is held with all parties together and a BIP is put into place for a 2 week trial period. The BIP will include sensory needs being met, a positive behavior reward plan, a personal schedule, self monitoring, a strong sensory diet and input from the team.
I worked for two and a half years in this position at Linden Grove School in Cincinnati. Before that I was an adjunct professor at Xavier University for 10 years teaching and speaking to students and community members about behavior interventions that work well with children with special needs.
For 10 years I was the Behavior Specialist for a large inner-city school (Mt. Healthy City Schools) working as an ED teacher at both the elementary and Jr. High levels then went to Central Office to help school wide students exhibiting disruptive behaviors in the classroom. I oversaw 4 elementary schools, a Jr. High and one High School. I helped with writing Behavior goals for IEP's and connected with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Autism unit for medication help.
I had to stop working in February due to being mugged outside a Walgreens which in turn hurt my back and knee. I am finally starting to feel better and am looking into going back to work after clearance from my doctor. I had 4 back surgeries before the assault.
I am passionate about working with students with behavior problems and get great joy from seeing their progress. As I rejoin the work force I look forward to being healed fully and able to take on the tasks presented to me.
