Dedicated to Dance
Private Social/Ballroom dance lessons
On an ad hoc basis I have been asked to teach adults musicality and rhythm so they can dance by themselves or with others at social events and on nights out. This involved teaching:
- Rhythm exercises to understand how to listen to music
- Basic steps which can be adapted to dance in at any social situation
- Sequences to use when dancing with someone else
Often booked by people who wanted the confidence to enjoy an evening out with friends and loved ones.
Ballet class cover
I was called to teach RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern dance and tap classes for Sally Stanyard School of Dance and Drama, in Winchester, UK. I taught classes based on the syllabus work she had been teaching while she took part in choreographing a yearly pantomime or had family events to attend. This was often at short notice.
Modern Dance weekly classes
Set-up and taught weekly Modern Dance classes to children based in an army community. Army children aged 4-5yrs and 6-8yrs were taught discipline, fun exercise and dance steps within their local community as families were often on one income and had no modes of transport to travel to he city centre to take their kids to extra curricular activities. These classes also gave them the opportunity to experience more culture and enabled them to express themselves through dance.
Toured the UK with Jazz Co in 2006 for 3 months performing a number of dance roles including jazz, contemporary and contemporary street dance in the show including one on roller skates in cinema tribute number to Saturday Night Fever! Also learnt a role within 2 weeks to take over an injured dancer before the tour began.
The Dance Institute Summer School
Taught workshops for ages 10 - 18 for Jazz technique, Street, Tap/Rhythm and assisted with Fosse and Hip-hop in a Summer school. This was a week event where kids from all over Ireland travelled to Dublin to attend a dance summer school for fun and to get a taste of what being a professional dancer is all about.
