This was my major in college when I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree, so most of my courses were Sociology courses. I took such a broad spectrum of Sociology classes ranging from Sociology Statistics to the Sociology of Mental Illness. I feel I have great knowledge and skill in this field because it was my major and I enjoyed this as my major.

Admissions & Emergency Services Specialist
Responsibilities include completing intakes for clients and scheduling appointments with the appropriate PSS staff or programs based on the client's needs. I also provide emergency services & crisis evaluations during the day at the Valparaiso PSS office, as well as providing these services at Porter Hospital Emergency rooms in Valparaiso and Portage, Indiana, during nights, weekends, and holidays. On a daily basis, I work with clients of all ages, suffering from various mental illnesses, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, schizophrenia, and clients who are suicidal and/or homicidal, among other issues including substance abuse problems. I also work with the elderly population who are dealing with the onset of dementia and/or Alzheimer's and elderly clients that are already late in their diagnosis, therefore they are residing in assisted living. Other responsibilities include facilitating admission to psychiatric hospitals and completing pre-certification for the client's insurance company upon admission. I am a member of the PSS and Porter Hospital Crisis Team, which includes working with the Porter County Police Department and the Porter County judges when necessary. I am responsible for completing the appropriate client paperwork and working as a team with PSS therapists and psychiatrists, along with Porter Hospital's ER doctors, nurses, and social workers. I have to maintain and ensure the safety of the clients during intakes and crisis evaluations; therefore I go above and beyond my job responsibilities in times of emergencies. During these times, I must be able to work independently in an effective and professional manner.

Other responsibilities include writing assessments and treatment plans for clients, to make certain that these plans are being followed. I am required to reach 90 billable hours per month with my clients. I am in constant contact with my clients and their families on a daily basis. I also attend weekly meetings with my team leader, along with my client's therapist and psychiatrist to discuss my caseload and ensure that we are doing everything possible to help these families. Maintaining a good rapport with these families is a necessity and something I strived in.
