Relocated to London UK as Business Development Director charged with developing the railway engineering business of VIAS into the UK market.

Specific projects include:

VIAS Sponsor – Lead VIAS input into the NR Plain Line Track Works Framework Agreement tender submission. Worked with partner organisations to define the delivery strategy and approach, transition and mobilisation plan as well as the pricing strategy.

Adaptation of the Company System for the Achilles Link Up - Successfully achieved registration in November 2012. Duties including development and adaptation of policies, process and records for Health & Safety, Environment, Quality and the day-to-day working of the company.

Principal Contractor Licence (PCL) - -Development of the systems to obtain the NR PCL including Policies, Organisation and Responsibilities, Management System, Arrangements relating to work on NR Infrastructure, sourcing provision of competent Health, Safety and Environmental Advice.

Bank Station Upgrade – Working with VIAS parent company, Dragados, provided technical input and sub-contractor relationship development assistance for the successful tender for the Bank Station Upgrade.

Site manager undertaking track work and coordination for Overhead Line electrification (OLE) and Signalling works. Work involved planning and co-ordination of engineering trains, sub-contractors and personnel on site. Successfully ensuring safe working practices were developed and adopted on all sites. Overall responsibility for works delivery.

Specific Projects included:

Castelbisbal / Papiol - Mollet Sant Fost - Renewal of the branch line junction including adaptation of track gauge to allow both international and Iberian gauge trains to run.

The scope of the works of this contract included:
• procurement, installation and testing & commissioning of the track, S&C, OLE, safety elements, telecommunications, signalling installations and earthworks
• complete renewal of 39.5 km of single track including the dismantling of the old track and ballast, and the installation of the new track including the installation of the ballast, sleepers, rail and switches
• Installation of 35 new switches
• Installation of signalling as part of the safety and telecommunications elements:
• Renewal of the electric interlocking in the stations of Rubí and Cerdanyola Universidad
• Installation of a new electric interlocking system in the Riera de Caldes station.

Development of the Business Plans and Business Case for the expansion of the company to the United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal, France, the United States of America and Canada: This involved analysis of the social and economic situation of each country and the opportunities for investment in the rail industry.

Other duties included evaluation of the construction sector in terms of potential opportunities for new players, analysis and identification of possible joint venture partners. As a result of this analysis and the subsequent development work undertaken, VIAS was awarded two track renewals contracts in Portugal (for REFER) and a further contract in France (for SNCF).

Collaborating in the concrete department assisting development of models of arch structures made with concrete using fibres.

The work was part of the IAESTE (International Association of Exchange of Students for Technical Experience). As a former Member of the Association while University, currently employ IAESTE students from all around the world during the summer on various VIAS works.

Involved in research project developing new products to improve the rheology of the cement to reduce the amount of clinker content and reduce the amount of CO2 produced per Ton of Cement.
