South African Music and Dance
We are South Africans living in London with a passion for life, music and dance. Our newly formed group Nykakaza is about movement and sound. Nyakaza means ‘move’ in isiZlulu.
Our choral sound is unmistakably South African, typified in the popular call and response fashion that was put on the international platform by Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Our dance comprises Zulu, Ndebele and Sotho traditional sequences, performed individually and ensemble.
We have a vision of sharing our music and culture with the world, taking Nelson Mandela's vision of togetherness in diversity to all the colours of the Earth’s rainbow. Our performances have a narrative which fits well with educational programmes pertaining to the arts and culture of South and southern Africa. We would welcome Black History Month bookings in the UK and around the world.
Choreographer and Musical Director - Louisa Mthembu
Louisa has worked in South Africa and abroad with the renowned Gibson Kente Theatre Company. She has performed in South Africa, The Netherlands, Thailand, Canada and the UK.
