Italian Art between the two World wars

This is a demo I've made for an high school in Brescia, the Centro Studi "Leonardo da Vinci". It gave me the opportunity to be selected for a project focused on a online course for the high school. The project offers an overview on the History of Fine Arts from the beginning, I mean from the caves 'paintings, to the contemporary art. I've recorded twenty videos, lasting 30 minutes each. This one, 8 minutes only, explains what happened in the second decade of last century: after the Avant-garde movements (e.g. Cubism, Futurism) and in opposition of them, came out a "rappel a l'ordre". A growing number of European artists needed to come back to the figurative tradition, after experimentations and excesses carried out. In Italy this return was very strong. Painters like Giorgio De Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Felice Casorati promoted a recovery of the great italian painting of the past, of the Renaissance for example. At the beginning of the Twenties born a movement called "Novecento" that gathered painters and sculptors who were very close to that "rappel a l'ordre". Founded by Margherita Sarfatti, Benito Mussolini' s lover, "Novecento" was supported by the Fascist government. The video focuses also on some of the favourite themes of the period: the cult of the Fatherland; the image of the Chief.
