My background in social care started around 1994, volunteering with The Samaritans. Concurrently, I worked as a support worker for a national organisation supporting people with learning disabilities to have an independent lifestyle. I moved on to work with another charitable organisation carrying out NHS re-provision supporting people with profound disabilities, challenging behaviours. As part of a team setting up new community based, small services, I took up the post of registered manager in 1999 (Registered Homes Act 1984). In 2002, I was appointed as a Regulatory Inspector with NCSC, later CSCI and in February 2008, was appointed as a ‘Regulatory Manager’, later ‘Local Area Manager’ with CSCI, managing and supporting regulatory inspectors. In 2009 this role has widened to support both social care inspectors and health care assessors in their regulatory duties. Concurrently, between 2005-2010 I studied for a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with the Open University. In May 2010, as part of the regulatory reforms under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, I took a special projects role with CQC supporting inspectors to register providers until the Act became live on 01 October 2010, whereupon I returned back to direct operations management with CareTech Community Services Ltd as Regional Operations Manager / Locality Manager. As September 2011 draws to a close, I remain passionate about improving life opportunities and having invested wisely will continue my education full time for one year studying MSc in Analysis and Intervention in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at the University of Kent, Tizard Centre.
During this time, I will be building a consultancy service offering direct coaching and support in predominantly social care service delivery, Active Support and later, Applied Behaviour Analysis. Please get in touch if you feel I would benefit your service.
