Objective: Process and efficiency optimization project to stretch the terminal beyond its then capacity (1.9 Mteus). The project focused on people skills
development and process re-engineering and deliberately excluded capital
infrastructure investment. With the assistance of McKinsey and PMCS from Sri
Lanka, the throughput capacity was extended to 2.3 Mteus. This equated to the business achieving a bottom-line income statement improvement of USD
37.5 MIL per annum, in perpetuity, with virtually zero outlay of capital funds.

Re-engineer existing terminal layout to cater for present and future business
requirements. This brown-fields infrastructure and super-structure
modernization project includes berth deepening and equipment upgrades. The
existing straddle carrier fleet is increased from 100 - 120 and replaces initial
60 ageing fleet with new diesel electric models. Gate automation and truck
staging is included to reduce road-side congestion.
Cape Town Container Terminal Expansion
Value: USD 232 MIL
Objective: Capacity expansion from 700 KTeus to - 1.4 MTeus
Terminal being converted from straddles to RTGs. Operator training and systems planning are critical success factors. Computer technology
simultaneous switched from Cosmos to Navis N4 for improved RTG planning and execution.
Ngqura Container Terminal (New Facility)
Value: USD 1 BIL
Objective: Green fields build 2.0 MTeus terminal (Phase 1 = 900KTeus)
Phase 1 is completed. In addition to managing the infrastructure and equipment build programmes, this project included recruitment and training of
