reinforcement, fixing devices. Building chimney breasts, lined flue and stacks, soldier, brick-on-edge
and oversailing courses, copings, cappings and quoin blocks, semi-circular and segmental rough
arches. Forming openings and raking work and bonding new work to existing.
5. PREPARING MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS
Proportion and mix mortars by hand and tilting drum mixer. Cut components by hand tools and
portable and static power tools.
6. DRAINAGE
Set out drains runs, transfer datums and gradients using optical level, spirit level and straight edge or
gradient board. Lay pipes up to 100 mm diameter on bedding material. Install performed concrete and
plastic chamber units and construct brick manholes. Test pipes by the air and water test.
7. CONCRETE
Compact ground, erect timber and rigid road forms, lay and compact concrete to paths basic slabs and
foundations, finish surfaces and cure concrete

Setting out and building obtuse angles, battered walling and circular work

Building fireplace surround and hearth, semi-circular and segmental axed arches and a bullseye, basket
