Counselling is a psychological process focusing on a helping relationship. My beliefs are that key qualities of a good counselling relationship are empathic understanding, respect for and acceptance of my client's current state of being and genuineness.
My training focused on an Integrative approach where I have developed skills and techniques that come from different schools of counselling. As an integrative counsellor I use a ‘toolbox' with a variety of ‘tools' inside. Which tool is used at any given time will depend on the issue that the client is facing, as well as the client's ‘state of being' in that session. It is likely I will use several ‘tools' within any given session in order to achieve the most effective therapy.
When choosing to have a course of therapy with a counsellor it is important that the counsellor is someone you feel you could develop a therapeutic bond with. Otherwise, no matter how skilled that counsellor might be, the therapy is unlikely to be as effective as it might be.
I offer an initial one hour session at a reduced rate for us to meet one another and discuss working together. We can decide if I will support you towards achieving the most effective therapy by agreeing to work therapeutically together or I can signpost you on to another agency with more specialised support for your needs.
For more information about seeking a supportive relationship in therapy I am contactable through email or the private messages on my facebook page
