Work History

Deputy Manager

of Carribean Car Repair in Kingston, Jamaica
I worked for my families business initially in charge of accounts and then deputising for the manager. My responsibilities included collating all the incoming and outgoing figures, checking that invoices were accurate and sent out on time, chasing up unpaid invoices and organizing appropriate measures to ensure payment. Due to the nature and size of the business I would also help out on the shop floor. This entailed helping with the servicing and repairs to the cars where I would draw on my mechanical skills that I acquired in the UK. After a year it was felt that I had sufficient knowledge of the business to deputise for the manager in his absence. This was initially for approximately 1 week/month growing to 3 weeks in every 4 due to the expansion of the business and other family projects. My duties were to oversee the accounts department, oversee the running of the business on the shopfloor and to hire/fire whenever deemed appropriate as well as settling customer queries/disputes whenever they arose. I would also give the go ahead for the purchasing or repair of relevant equipment required to further the business.

Chambermaid-Holiday Inn

My duties included cleaning and preparing rooms after the guests departure. This would entail that the room was of the minimum standard required by the Holiday Inn and was made completely presentable for the next guest. The bed linen would be fresh, the floor hovered, the drinking facilities replaced and functioning. The bathroom would have fresh towels and all the toiletries replaced where necessary. If there was any damage to the room this would need to reported to the duty manager. When guests were staying for multiple nights the rota would need to be organized with the team in order not to disturb them.I worked within a team of 4 on my particular department and I became the team leader which essentially meant I dealt with our own rota and any team issues came to me and I passed these on to the relevant departments.
