Jazz Radio Programmer
“Mr. Leonard's Jazz Suite” was a weekly progressive three-hour jazz program on KFSR Fresno 90.7 FM that centered around jazz from the be-bop era to the present. The programs highlighted renowned artists such as Dizzy Gillespi, Bud Powell, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk and Wes Montgomery.
“Rhythms In Jazz” was a two-hour jazz program that highlighted some of the young hidden jazz talent of today such as trumpeter Christian Scott and Esperanza Spalding, on KFCF Fresno 88.1 FM, sister station to KPFA in Berkeley CA.
For over 10 years these programs were dedicated to presenting the historical origins and evolution of jazz. One of the most important aspects of the programs was to expose the listener to and educate the younger generation about the various forms of jazz.
Mr. Leonard presented culturally diverse jazz radio programming for all ages and ethnicities. Audiences that tuned in to these programs gained an appreciation for one of America's rare, original art forms----jazz.
Mr. Leonard recently ended his tenure as a radio DJ, initially focusing on jazz music and then eventually branching out to various forms of eclectic underground sounds.
