I infuse my courses with creative writing and academic writing. Encouraging students to learn to utilize their emotions in expression. My goal is to waken students to the use of rhetorical strategies for emphasis and that language, all language is an art that one can use to communicate more effectively. I also teach New Media literacy, we study the transparency issue, keep up with technology and modern forms of media in my classes. Finally I encourage students to find a personal voice through poetry. This is done in my ELL courses using both languages and even sometimes a fusion of language.


Shanghai American School

From July 2013

Teaching literacy through two courses, poetry forensics and twentieth century literature. I taught creative writing techniques, persuasion rhetoric and critical analysis of text. I also introduced students to Edmodo online class rooms, Prezi, Voice thread, and Wix for website creations. The courses focused on writing styles, new media literacy, and presentation.

Implement strategic testing to improve teaching techniques and find any weaknesses in educational materials.


NW Impact, Barnes Elementary School

January 2011 - June 2011

Taught Shakespeare, Creative writing, Chess, Writers Workshop and Basketball in an after-school program with NW Impact. Implement my own curriculum with each course. I Edited Shakespeare text in order to perform each play in ten minutes, Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. Assist with other classes when teachers or educators were unavailable. I coordinated with Shine staff for break time and outdoor recess. I thoroughly enjoyed this position and this opportunity reminded me just how much I loved teaching.

I assisted families with the education, care giving, and nurturing to their children. I worked with mostly ages 3 to 5, but occasionally I had younger children from a few months to a year.

I am a freelance writer for "Dining with Dick and Jane PDX, " "Sin Means Nothing in Española, " and Island6 gallery. I edit papers, poetry, and novels. I also help edit email correspondence for companies in Shanghai. I collaborate with Celestial Concubine, Celina Wigle, David Agranoff and other writers for education, inspiration and camaraderie.

Seattle Aquarium

From January 2002

I taught biology, Salmon story, Tide pool animals, marine mammals and various workshops to students visiting the aquarium classes K through 12th grade. I helped with the organization, cooperation and implementation of aquarium events for the public such as Mother's day booths with arts and crafts, paper making and how to make your own compost.
