Technical Manager

The Playhouse Company

Presently I am the Technical Manager at The Playhouse Company where I manage the Stage Technical Services Department. The Front-of-House, Recording Studio, Stage Management, Production Management, Production Wardrobe, Lighting & Sound departments all fall within the ambit of Stage Technical Services. All the Heads of these various departments report directly to me. I am in charge of budgets, monthly reports, audit & quarterly reports. I am responsible for assessing the needs of my staff i.r.o. Workshops, maintenance and upgrading of equipment in the various theatres, training, etc.

Production Mnager

Packed House Productions

June 2007 - October 2008


Appointed Production/Technical Manager at ‘Packed House Productions in Johannesburg. I had to oversee all technical aspects of productions. Duties included being responsible for budgets, allocation of staff, transportation of sets and also to ensure that technical excellence was maintained at all times. I reported to the Directors of Tanstaafl Holdings, Mr. Paul Berning and Deon Opperman.

October 2005 - May 2007

October 2005, appointed Head of Production at the Spier Arts Summer Season. I was responsible for doing contracts for artists, obtaining quotations for productions, allocation of technical staff as well as ensuring that technical excellence was maintained. I also reported on maintenance and upgrading of all equipment as well as maintenance for the Amphitheatre building. I reported to Ms Annebelle Schreuders, Head: Spier Arts Summer Festival.

PACOFS Theatre

April 1985 - April 1996

• Responsible for the lighting requirements of all the main venues at PACOFS; Sand du Plessis; André Huguenot Theatre; Civic Theatre, Observatory Theatre & during when on tour.

• Training of technical stage managers, stage electrics, lighting technicians and follow-spot s.

• Compilation of Lighting Training Manuals to be used by PACOFS Lighting technicians.

• Giving advice to visiting companies / artists regarding their lighting requirements.

In the absence of the Production Manager at the Sand du Plessis, I had to oversee all technical and maintenance aspects/requirements. I am also responsible for ensuring that the overall artistic standards of lighting designs at PACOFS were maintained. I reported directly to Mr Martin Pelser, Director: Technical Services.

April 2004: I was in charge of all PACOFS venues; the maintenance of the areas,technical crew; sound, lighting requirements for shows, as well as for allocating staff for the Volksblad & Macufe Festivals. I di quotations for rentals and managed the purchasing of sound & lighting equipment. I reported directly to Mr. Pat Johnson, Technical Director: PACOFS.
