On stage I am known as Stormae. I am a singer-songwriter and violinist/pianist and have written and produced an electronica album, using Ableton Live.
My debut album, 'Fragments in Time' mixes the raw elements of classical violin/piano and my soul vocals with ambient synth melodies, deep bass-lines and oldskool riffs, producing a more emotive style of electronica. You can listen to my album, 'Fragments in Time' -alongside various vocal covers and vocal/violin collaborations on www.soundcloud.com/stormae
I am classically trained to Grade 8 on both violin and piano. As a highly adaptable, intuitive musician, I am able to work within an extensive range of settings and events. This might include studio work, orchestral, live performances within bands, solo artist performing covers or original album material and as a singer at private social events- e.g. weddings and parties.
I am always keen to collaborate with quality Musicians, DJs and Producers- preferable genres include electronica, techno, drum and bass, jungle, breakbeat and world music. Also, I work as a registered Music Therapist, so am highly skilled at improvisation and would welcome opportunities to freestyle live on vocals or violin in the studio or on stage as part of a live performance.
I'm a professional soul singer-songwriter and violinist/pianist and have written and produced an album solely myself, using Ableton Live.
I was classically trained until the age of 18 when I achieved Grade 8 on both instruments, with Grade 8 distinction on violin.
In 2001-2004, I studied a BA Honours in Film and Theatre at Reading University, where I developed my naturally rich soul voice and innate improvisational skills on violin and vocals. At university I developed my passion for Electronica whilst incorporating experimental compositions into adapted theatre productions. At this time I gained live experience at various gigs around Reading; including vocal performances at underground Electronic, Drum and Bass and Hiphop nights at Plug and Play, alongside the Beat Feast collective. After graduating with a 2:1, I moved to Melbourne, Australia for a gap year, where I performed regularly; working on studio projects with Australian Producers and Ben Phaze (London) and improvising/free-styling on violin and vocals to accompany bands, before moving to London.
Whilst living in London, in 2008, I started work on producing my album, 'Fragments in Time.' My unique production style mixes the raw natural elements of classical violin, piano and my velvety soul vocals with ambient synth melodies, deep bass-lines and oldskool riffs, producing a more emotive style of electronica. I take great pleasure and inspiration from the legendary music of Aphex Twin and Sigor Ros. Much of my Album, "Fragments in Time' echoes strong influences from Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient works 85-92', released in 1992. Some of my production has been likened to 'Orbital,' particularly my track, 'Sparkrum.'
In 2009, I performed my original album material regularly at the Cobden Club, Notting Hill, London; where I would showcase my innate passion for improvisation; proving that such skills create spontaneity, fluidity of expression and enrich the atmosphere.
