in a residential care home. Following a set schedule and paying particular attention to Food Hygiene and Health and Safety, I was responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen, food preparation areas, store cupboards and cold storage.
Working within strict time constraints, I managed the turn-around of used cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery back to the kitchen. This involved close co-operation and co-ordination with the chef and floor staff to ensure meals were prepared and delivered on time and to a high standard.
In the absence of the chef, I managed the delivery of pre-prepared meals to the clients.
I was also responsible for keeping accurate records of the day's cleaning and all meals taken by clients, and communicating any necessary information to the following day's staff.
Food Hygiene and Customer Service
Kings Arms Sandwich
During my fourth school year I completed two weeks of work experience in a pub restaurant. This involved working in the restaurant as a waitress; taking orders, relaying information to the kitchen, serving food to diners, clearing away and washing up. This role required a dynamic personable manner, excellent communication skills and a good eye for detail with attention to Health and Safety legislation, Food Hygiene and Customer Service.
Wingham Wildlife Park / South East Water Gardens
During this time I worked in animal care assisting the keepers of an animal and wildlife park.
In this role I was given a number of duties. These included preparing feed for the animals and distributing it around the park. These tasks required great care as any mistake could have a detrimental affect the health of the animals. I was responsible for cleaning the enclosures of some of the animals, again with the health and wellbeing of the animals taking priority, and assisted in the creation and care of a reptile and insect display.
An important element of my role at the park was care and maintenance of the public areas. As part of a team I was responsible for cleaning the facilities, benches, picnic tables, collecting litter, emptying bins, sweeping paths and keeping them clear of weeds and excessive plant growth.
Working around the park, I was in contact with the public. I quickly developed a greater knowledge and understanding of the park and the animals kept within, and was able to pass this on to members of the public as and when required with confidence and a positive demeanour.
I also worked in the South East Water Gardens pet shop. This involved caring for the small animals, developing good product knowledge, cash handling, stock control, and maintaining shop cleanliness. The main focus of this role was to generate sales through excellent customer service.
2007 - 2011
During this time I worked as a cleaner for elderly clients. This was a position of great trust as it involved working within the homes of elderly, more vunerable people. The role helped me develop my communication skills; conversing with people from different backgrounds with a wealth of life experiences they liked to share, and also my skills as an independent worker using initiative and self-discipline to get all necessary tasks completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
