Exploring thioester chemistry in mutual prodrug design for combination antihypertensive therapy
Project: Exploring Co–drug therapy for hypertension
o In my project I focused on the synthesis of a mutual pro-drug for antihypertensive treatment by chemically linking two antihypertensive drugs so that they produce a synergistic effect and at the same time they reduce the dose dependent side effects of the individual drugs.
o Pro-drugs are inactive bioreversible derivatives of a drug which upon in vivo activation release the active drug for its ultimate biological effect. The rationale behind designing pro-drugs is to optimize the drug delivery by temporarily modifying the physico-chemical properties so as to overcome the pharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic drawbacks of that drug.
