Whom It May Concern
From July 2013
and as a choir director. I have known and worked with Larry since 1992, when I first studied voice with him at CSU, Northridge, and throughout the following years, when I was the tenor soloist/section leader, and then a volunteer singer, at Northridge United Methodist Church.
Larry is a fantastic musician and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge of choral, solo vocal, and operatic repertoire. He pours his heart and soul into his work and challenges and inspires the singers fortunate enough to work with him. He is always well prepared for lessons and rehearsals, with clear goals in mind, and strategies to achieve them. His knowledge of the repertoire allows him to consistently find music that inspires, complements and enriches the singers he works with. Larry has vast experience working with singers at all levels and of all ages including young teenagers, college students and mature adults. In working with choirs, Larry's keen musicianship, knowledge of vocal technique, and vast experience as a singer and choir director give him the ability to achieve a wonderful choral sound from both trained and untrained singers.
Larry has performed at the highest levels in the field of classical music, singing for Igor Stravinsky and Pierre Boulez, among others, and yet he is one of the most friendly, approachable, and likeable people you'll ever meet. His outgoing personality and fun-loving sense of humor are immediately apparent, but Larry is also an incredibly kind and generous person. If a singer, or a group of singers, is having trouble learning the music, Larry is willing to schedule extra time to work with them. He inspires his singers so that they want to learn and improve. He is always willing to go the extra mile for his students or for members of his choir.
It is with the utmost enthusiasm that I recommend Larry Jarvis for positions in individual or group vocal instruction or choral music.
