I have been Teaching and Lecturing Horticulture in a wide and diverse range of subject area specialisms. This includes, local authorities, health services, further education and currently the prison service. I also have experience of designing, building and managing the curriculum for 2 successful community farms. My particular specialism is teaching adults and children with learning disabilities which is of particular use within prison settings and the offenders.

Lecturing City and Guilds level 1 and Level 2 certificates in practical Horticulture skills as part of the prison service offender rehabilitation programme. Working with a wide range of learners from entry level to degree level, often with associated dyslexia, dysphraxia or as English as a second language. This course currently has outstanding levels of retention and achievement.

Lecturing a range of subjects to students (16-18 age range), as part of a pre vocational course. Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, Conservation, Horticulture, Independent living skills, Personal and Social development and Enrichment activities. Responsible for curriculum development and delivery of full time, level 1 and level 2, City and Guilds Horticulture courses (full time). Responsible for development and management of High Mead Community Farm. Development of organic practice, business partners and staffing of a range of students of varying abilities attending the farm for courses and day care. Development of livestock programme. (Farm closed as part of government cutbacks).

Employed in this position as a Technical Instructor in Horticulture. Teaching all aspects of horticulture to adults with severe learning disabilities/challenging behavior from semi-secure and secure units. This position involved designing, building and managing the project to incorporate soft landscaping, hard landscaping , nursery practice and maintenance. This included, managing a team of horticultural therapists, instructors and support staff with the intention of delivering identified training to individual students.

This position is where I was trained as a professional grounds man and learnt all of my horticultural skills. I was trained in hard landscaping, soft landscaping, sports ground planning/design/construction and maintenance. Horticultural nursery work producing/planting and maintaining, trees, shrubs and bedding. Repair and maintenance of a range of tools and powered equipment. During this employment I worked from trainee to charge hand.
