Welcome Center

The creation of this design was centered in relationship to a logging theme. The logging trade was once quite popular and a way of life in the 18 to early 1900's. The idea of the design was to portray, if even in slight, the likeness of a tree/logging design feel, in some form or fashion.

In this particular design, form dictated and helped to develop the buildings function and how it was to be laid out, as well as designed. This building has a log-home feel, but all the amenities and looks of a more modern day structure. This building also encloses or surrounds entirely, a tree to help add to the appeal of the building and look of none other. This building is unique in that it allows for wildlife too still make use of the tree and allow for the tree to grow as it would naturally, but also provides an added feature to be seen and give aid to the representation of the logging theme.

This building is three stories high and has a green-grid roof with public access on the second floor for the enjoyment of visitors. This building also has a breakfast/lunch/dinner seating area that crosses over and allows for seating above a river the building sets adjacent to. This river view eating/relaxation area also allows for phenomenal views of the setting sun at Lake Michigan.

On the third floor is an outside eating area also facing west to take advantage of the view of the setting sun, but also Lake Michigan too. The only drawback to this design was being unable to locate a cypress tree “block” (an image file used in Autodesk’s’ Revit) instead of having to use a palm tree. The palm tree was the only available block I could find which had foliage that began quite away off of the ground. Regardless, it doesn’t seem to take away from the look and feel of the building and its representation of the logging theme.
