Electroplating and Paint Shop
Started with the company when they made a lost of R 20 m, R 155 m turnover and operational staff of 1400. After 4 years we made a profit of R 30 m, turnover of R230m and operational staff off 1000. Product lines were Wagon Build, Wagon Repair, Mainline Coaches, Electroplating and Paint Shop, Diesel locomotives body work and wreckage repairs, Manufacturing, Fabrication and Foundry. Responsibilities were, balancing staff with projected sales, budget from Supervisor level to the plant level, monitor daily throughput of each product line, work with Unions regards to labour problems, monthly budget reviews, projections and action plans.
Monthly reports were held with Transwerk Executive committee regards the total management of the factory, my responsibility was the operational side of the business.
with the responsibility of 3 maintenance Depots (Pyramid South, 25 Kv AC locomotives; Capital Park, 3 Kv DC locomotives; Wolmerton, 3 Kv suburban coaches; Blue Train). This was cost centres for the Rolling stock of Transnet. Responsibilities were the maintenance, material planning and control, technical and Admin staff and the budgets for the Depots.

I did high voltage training which involves the power supply from Eskom to the substations of Transnet, the maintenance and test of the substations as well as the overhead lines for the locomotives.
