Work History

Junior Scientist

GKSS Forschungszentrum Geesthacht

July 1993 - September 1995

During my first position as an Oceanographer, I analysed 20 years of sediment data for the Elbe channel deepening project - that was the only time in my career, where I didn't work with radar data!

Student - Masters degree

GKSS Forschungszentrum Geesthacht

October 1992 - June 1993

I started working with wave radar in 1992 by developing an algorithm for what today is called 'WaMoS'.

Business development and Innovation

Ocean Waves

I have co-founded OWS in 2000 and have set-up the company together with Juergen Dittmer, who unfortunately passed away in December 2010. As a consequence to that, I was looking for a strong business partner, and was able to incorporate OWS into the St. Johns based company Rutter Inc., on November 1st. 2012.

WaMoS II - Wave Monitoring System

WaMoS is an X-Band radar based wave, current and bathymetry monitoring system, that can be installed on board platforms, vessels or at any coastal site. I am working with WaMoS since 1992, and have co-founded OceanWaves GmbH to market and further develop WaMoS. Since then we have installed more than 150 systems around the world, mainly in the offshore and and coastal sector.
In 2012 OceanWaveS has been sold to Rutter Inc., to take the development to the next level by combining Rutter's Sigma 6 ice, oil and target tracking system with WaMoS. This is an very exciting opportunity to now commonly develop a X-Band radar based system that can do it all: waves, currents, bathymetry, oil, ice and small targets.
