Financial Controls Administrator
From February 2012
I work in the FSSC in the Financial Controls area. My main responsibilities are managing my daily,
weekly and monthly tasks of account reconciliation. I am responsible for Client Money accounts,
Bank accounts and Policy Holder accounts. The team is responsible for carrying out robust controls in order to ensure our Ledger is fit for purpose and that our accounts are reconciled accurately and honestly in order to show a true reflection
It's essential to our stakeholders that our reporting area has correct balances and figures.
This position has given me experience across many business areas, working with many different source
systems and learning about different Standard Life products.
June 2008 - February 2012
During this time I worked in the Risk and Controls Department in the Platform Customer Centre.
My main responsibilities were managing my daily tasks of accounts reconciliation and drawdown controls.
We worked as a control team, therefore most of our work involved controlling risk, identifying potential risk and educating the rest of the Business on the importance of following processes to avoid and/or identify
potential risks. It was in this team where I discovered my interest in transaction monitoring and learning how to identify different types of risk and discovering ways to avoid and prevent it.
I did a lot of work on the VP tab, being one of two people to build this particular control. This was a big piece of work and is still used in the Process Exception Services area in Baileyfield to monitor all VP payments being made.
It highlights high risk transactions such as duplicate payments and manual payments. I was involved in creating the Manual
Payments checklist which is still used as canned comments on AWD whenever a manual payment is made.
This is an additional check used to ensure a manual payment is necessary and to ensure CSD are alerted to the risks involved in making a manual payment.
The VP tab also had a check for highlighting payments being made to Countries of Concern. These would be identified and investigated fully.
Being involved in this type of work gave me a great deal of satisfaction. I learned so much about the Business this way. I was given the opportunity to sit in other teams to see their processes and challenge any steps within the processes which I felt may be a high risk. Because of these opportunities I've been exposed to a lot of the processes in the Sipp Centre and have experience with a lot of the systems they use.
July 2001 - August 2004
While working as a Store Manager at Guess? I had the responsibility of leading a team of as many as 40 people at a time in sales and customer service. I held monthly team meetings, was involved in salary planning for my staff,
organised weekly work schedules, conducted performance reviews, set out daily/weekly/monthly sales budgets for individual staff members and created a fun working environment. I was responsible for upholding the sales standards for my individual unit and ensuring our sales budgets were made each week. I had a key role in monitoring internal theft as well as leading workshops for my staff in identifying and preventing external theft.
My team worked well together and consistently beat our targets. I was often in the top 10 for highest sales in
North America at a Manager level.
