Work History

Visiting Professor

Biosciences Dept, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan

August 2004 - January 2005

Introduced and taught “Protein Science & Bioinformatics” to 3rd year Bioinformatics students. Trained staff members.

Senior Research Associate

The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia

From February 2001

Responsible for supervising/co-supervising students, management of lab and equipment, training colleagues. Designing and conducting experiments, analysing data and writing papers regarding structure-function-stability relationship and applications of amylases, lipases, proteases, versatile peroxidase and enzymes involved in toxin production in marine cyanobacteria. Chemical modification of enzymes. Involved in research and development, including developing calorimetric assay for ligninases and its application for the degradation of humic substances. Developed, introduced, demonstrated and lectured isothermal titration calorimetry (iTC) topics (macromolecular binding and enzyme kinetics) for the “molecular biology of the proteins” course.

Research Specialist (Protein Chemistry)

Pharmaceuticals Research Centre, King Abdul-Asia City of Science and Technology, (SPIMACO), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

October 1999 - October 2000

Trained, taught and supervised Saudi-Arabian colleagues regarding protein chemistry. Established and optimized techniques and standard operating protocols (SOP) regarding various polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (-PAGE), enzymatic deglycosylation and peptide mapping methods. QC/QA and validation of purified human r-erythropoietin

Senior Scientific Officer

National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, (NIBGE), Jhang Road, Faisalabad, Pakistan

February 1990 - October 1999

Designed and taught the Advanced Biotechnology courses to MPhil students; established the Enzymology Laboratory; headed up the Enzymology Section (Industrial Biotechnology Division); supervised the research of M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D students regarding enzymology/protein chemistry of hydrolase enzymes; and trained a technical assistant in the field of enzymology.
