Blooms is Botswana's largest landscaping company. The head office was located in Gaborone and a branch in Francistown was the offices for all the northern regions of the country. The company's turnover was approximately 2million BWP p.a and was sourced mainly from Government landscaping projects. Other functions included maintenance contracts with parastatals and Private hotels as well as two retail outlets in Gaborone and Francistown. A wholesale nursery near Francistown produced approximately 50% of plant material used for its functions. I reported directly to the MD and worked with 30 permanent staff which increased to 70 members using temp workers when the work load required it. My staff included two drivers/supervisors. Plant material produced ranged extensively from succulent ground covers to Indigenous trees and Indoor plants for office plant requirements

City parks department's botanic garden is an 82 Ha parkland used for housing of specialised plant collections, an Herbarium and horticultural library. It was also responsible for coordinating and managing the natural area Melville Koppies. It had a staff compliment of 82 members which consisted of the curator, secretary, Public relations officer, Assistant curator, 3 horticulturists a head gardener/supervisor and labour teams responsible for turf management and garden maintenance. The Gardens also utilised the services of 5 volunteers to assist with the maintenance of the specialised plants collections which included an alpine house, 5 succulent houses, a Lithops collection and cycad collection. Extensive trials of new plant varieties were done with seed exchanged with international botanic garden via the index seminum.
I reported directly to the manager parks, who reported to the director of parks.

Responsibilities and duties
General management of the staff compliment. Annual budgeting for capital and operational expenditures. Presenting and presiding over labour disputes. Reestablishment of the index seminum and creation of the Botanic Gardens website. I was a member of the Community forum comprising the residents association, the SA Police and Security forum. I was also required to coordinate the public functions of the gardens such as 'concerts in the park' and the 'Shakespeare festival'. Environmental management of the watercourse and dams running through the park- this included dredging and desilting of dams and erosion control along the river.

City Parks Motorway Greening is a division of the Parks Department responsible for development and maintenance of all the freeway embankments, traffic islands and major arterial roadways. It was also responsible for maintaining a few parks and the Town Clerks residence.

The training division had 12 students under the training assistant. The division also included 4 permanent labourers which students were required to work with to gain labour management and people skills.
Students were seconded periodically to different divisions to further gain practical experience. All experienced gained contributed towards the diploma in Horticulture experiential examinations at the end of the course.
