Sylvania Metals Pty produces metallurgical chrome grade and PGMs concentrate from RoM and Dump feed in 2 streams.
Responsible for the technical section of the business. I am in charge of a team of Metallurgists whose sole purpose is to do process improvement, grade control and process control projects on Chrome and PGMs Plants.
Current Projects:
Improvement of recoveries for chrome fines and lumpy chrome using spirals and HMS repsectively
Improvement of grades and recoveries for the PGMs plant through tertiary milling.

ChromTech Holdings (Pty)

January 2012 - June 2013

ChromTech Holdings (Pty) Ltd produces Chrome concentrates from UG2 Platinum ores through the spirals plant concentrator.
Hydraulic Remining Project:
➢ Implementing changing of Tailings Dam remining from Mechanical Remining to Hydraulic Remining for the Chrome Plant.
➢ Commissioning (dry, wet and hot commissioning) of Hydraulic Remining project including activities such as:
• Contractor compliance with company safety, health and Environmental policies.
• Punch listing, land line tracing of PFDs to check on progress.
Secondary Chrome Recovery Plant (SCRP) Project:
➢ Setting up of a Rougher, Cleaner, Re-cleaner and Final Wash Spirals.
➢ Cold, Wet and Hot commissioning of the new Spirals plant.
➢ Mass Balance and process optimization and control during commissioning until final handover to the production Department.
➢ Optimizing of Spirals plant to meet set Chrome Recoveries.
Other Responsibilities:
➢ Mass Balances and pump calculations and motor sizing for all ChromTech projects.
➢ Implementation of ISO 9002, 14001 and OHSAS for ChromTech Crocodile River Mine chrome plant.
➢ Process control, monitoring and improvement of pulping plant and chrome spirals plant.
➢ Process engineering work on new projects ( Final Chrome Scavenger Plant and PGMs Scavenger plant)
➢ Optimization of the PGMs Scavenger Flotation plant through implementation of a proper reagents regime control, optimization of parameters such as grade and recovery, froth characteristics control, optimized mass pull and Metallurgical accounting.

Zimbabwe Alloys International produces High Carbon Ferrochromium and Ferrosilicon chromium alloys.

Responsibilities include;
➢ Raw Materials metallurgical accounting
- stockpiling and ordering of raw materials (Coke, coal, ores, molasses, quartz, etc)
- Movement of raw materials and accounting to the Smelting plant, quality and grade control.
- Chrome ore Briquette manufacture and quality control. Quality aspects include briquette strength and chemical analysis.
➢ Smelting Plant Operations:
- Operation of 18MVA and 31MVA Submerged Arc Furnaces for High Carbon and Ferrosilicon Chromium production.
- Metallurgical charge calculations for furnace feed for both High Carbon ferrochromium and Ferrosilicon Chromium production.
- Optimisation of process output through monitoring of parameters like power inputs and utilisation and electrode management.
- Control of alloy quality through analysis of final product and making appropriate charge corrections as well as slag chemistry control.
- Generation of weekly and monthly metallurgical accounting tables and reports.

Position held: Shift Metallurgist.
The company specializes in High Carbon Ferrochromium production, and processing of slag as a by-product.
Responsibilities include;
➢ Shift management
➢ Supervision and operation of 15MVA furnaces (Submerged arc furnaces) and control room operations.
➢ Process metallurgical control and optimisation of High Carbon Ferrochromium production. This included raw materials movement and grade control, charge calculation, and alloy quality control.
➢ Processing of alloy into different alloy sizes as specified by customer requirements.
➢ Undertaking of various process monitoring and improvement projects including the Raw Materials blending process and ore sampling techniques.
➢ Implementation and maintenance of NOSA
