I deliver NCFE Health and social care level 1 and 2 to adults 18 years and over in a community based setting in Stockton on tees. The majority of learners are long term unemployed, looking to seek employment. The class has 12 learners who have now achieved level 1 and succeeded in 100% retention and achievement. Eleven of the learners have progressed onto their level 2 Health and social care certificate which I also teach. During the time I have been teaching these learners their growing confidence and self- esteem has raised their aspirations and goals in life which is personally rewarding.

September 2010 – June 2012 - Targeted youth work (Youth worker)

The young people I worked with were aged between 12 - 20 years. My duties included engaging young people into the activities provided with appropriate supervision, ensuring health and safety guidelines were adhered to at all times, setting rules and boundaries for the young people. I liaise with the community police officers when carrying out our outreach project which promoted our services to the other young people in the area and engaged them into the services. During the youth club we also held sexual health services which included advice, c card, distributing condoms, Chlamydia tests and pregnancy testing. My time here has resulted in developing good relationships with the young people. I gained a sense of personal achievement from this role as I have been involved in helping local residents in my community regain trust and release the stigma attached to the young people through involving them in community activities and publicing the youth’s achievements.

I worked for ESF on a as a personal assistant, engaging 'hard to reach' adults who were not in education, training or employment onto the programme. My role involved helping them find steps into employment through creating cv's, helping with job searches, finding appropriate training, supporting them with job applications, finding childcare, building confidence, developing basic it skills, developing adult literacy and numeracy skills. Generally aiming to fulfil their potential by giving them better skills and job prospects.

I was employed as a support worker for a residential care home supporting vulnerable adults aged 18-54 years. The adults i supported each had their own support needs. Some having physical / learning difficulties and some having mental health issues such as ADHD and Schizophrenia. I am trained with both verbal and physical de-escalation techniques to deal with challenging behaviour appropriately. I instigated and reviewed care plans including risk assessments and managing individual cases of behaviour management plans.
