Projects

Kigoma Water Supply & Sanitation Project - Tanzania

The Project being located in Kigoma Town and being Financed by the European Union & KFW.
The Main works include:
1. Construction of an intake structure in Lake Tanganyika, on shore, with a raw waterpipeline of length 130 m into the lake, with a concrete sump, containing 4 submersible pumps and all accompanying fittings, electrical works, a roof structure, and an 800 mm raw water rising main of around 80 meter length.

2. One 2,000 m3 storage reservoir at the intake site, including chlorination facilities.

3. One pumping station with 9 pumps, including all pipework, (an 800 mm suction main from the reservoir to the pump station, all valves and fittings for the pipework and pumps, two rising mains with pipework up to the water meter chamber, (which is approximately 40 meter from the building).

4. Construction of ductile iron pumping mains, of 450 to 600mm dia, 16 km long.

5. Construction of 5No. 2,000 m3 reservoirs at Vamia, High level, Mlole, Gungu and Mnarani in Kigoma town, and one 500 m3 reservoir at Secondary School,

6. The distribution network: 129 km of uPVC pipeline, varying from DN 250mm to 90 mm diameter.

7. Construction of a sludge digester for on-site sanitation sludge, and provision of an Exhauster truck.

Musoma Water Supply & Sanitation Project – Tanzania

The Project Involved:
1. Construction of an intake structure of capacity 36,400m3/day at Bukanga area, Lake Victoria;
2. Construction of a raw water pumping station for 5 raw water low lift pumps each with a capacity of approximate 413mr/hr; Supply and installation of 5 new raw water low lift pumps each with a capacity of approximate 413m3/hr; Supply and installation of raw water rising main of DN 600 and length 315m;
3. Construction of a water treatment plant (design flow 34,450m3/day) which includes:
• 1 inlet chamber and 4 cascades for chemical dosing
• 4 flocculation basins and 8 clarifiers;
• 8 rapid sand filtration units with all fittings and controls;
• Clear water and backwash tank of capacity 2400 m3;
• 3 backwash pumps of capacity 540 m3 /h (2 duty + 1 standby);
• Chemical building of size 350 m2;
• 2 sedimentation tanks of capacity 270 m3;
• 2 sludge drying beds of area 780 m2 each
• Guard house of area 13m2;
• Administrative building of area 190 m2;
• Staff House – 2 twin units of area 2 x 60 m2;
4. Construction of clear water pumping station for 3 high lift pumps each with a capacity of approximate 784m3/hr;
5. Supply and installation of 3 new high lift pumps each with a capacity of approximate 784m3/hr; Supply and installation of DN 600 DI Class K9 clear water pumping main of length 4,800m from the water treatment plant to the main storage tank at Nyamihongo hill;

Lower Ruvu Water Treatment Plant - Tanzania

The Project being financed by Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) together with MCA-T (Millennium Challenge Account – Tanzania) and UWP Consulting Ltd as the main consultants in the project engaged SPENCON for the design and construction for the Expansion of the LOWER RUVU Water Treatment Plant (LRWTP) from a current production of 180MLD to 270MLD.
The Expansion Works involved:
 Construction of new raw water pumps station, and installation of raw water pumps and electrical switch gears.
 Constructions of duplicate raw water main (1400 mm diameter, approx 500 m long) between raw water pump station and flow dividing chamber.
 Construction of a new 5-way flow dividing unit
 Construction of a fourth clarifier
 Construction of 4 new rapid sand filters
 Construction of 2400 m3 additional treated water storage
 Construction of a pump house and installation of treated water pumps to handle flow of approximately 270 MLD
 Provision of associated power supply/electrical installations, including switch gear, motor control centers etc.
 Increase capacity of sludge lagoons by construction of one additional cell.
 Assembly works (mechanical and instrumentation)
