Subject Leader for Art - Secondary School

I manage and run a successful Art department in St' Catherine's School, Bexleyheath, Kent. We have exceptionally good GCSE results every year. I mentor trainee teachers and newly qualified staff. My last Ofsted (subject specific) inspection awarded us with 'Good'.

Work History

Subject Leader for Art

St. Catherine's School

I am the only full time Art teacher in a school of over 1000 students. I am responsible for the day to day running of the department which includes teaching a full time table, lesson planning, monitoring and refining schemes of work, student tracking, report writing, attending parents' evening and academic review days. I mentor NQTs and PGCE students. I check and update stock and renew and refresh all display work. I attend central leaders meetings, learning and teaching community meetings and enrichment programmes to share good practise and cross curricular opportunities. I am a year 9 form tutor and have a significant pastoral role in the school. As a department we continue to achieve good GCSE results - 89% A*-C last year.

Subject Leader for Art

Swanley Technology College

I began my teaching career at Swanley then moved on to become second in department, then Subject Leader. Along with running the department I was responsible for designing and creating the new school identity when it became a technology college.

Graphic Designer
Clients included several major publishing houses in London - Methuen, Arrow, Macmillan, Virago, Century. I worked with smaller, independent studios focusing on corporate identity briefs. I also worked with Littlebrook Power Station and I re designed the school badge and letterhead for West Hill Primary School in Dartford.

Art Director

Gollancz Publishing, Covent Garden

I joined the studio as a Graphic Designer then went on to become Art Director overseeing two permanent members of stall but also dealing with freelance photographers, illustrators and designers. I was responsible for designing and producing all relevant promotional aspects of the publicity department.
