Cook - Childrenswear Garment & Graphics Designer - Oxon, England, UK

Julia Cook

Oxon, England, UK

Childrenswear Garment & Graphics Designer

I am a senior designer with 17 years experience in the children's fashion industry (including 6 years successfully running my own brand - Tickittyboo.) Working as a freelancer, I have dealt with most of the leading high street fashion companies. My special skills lie in graphics & garment design. I am market driven, versatile with a strong sense of originality, and like to innovate newness. I have dealt with all aspects of the business, from design concept, preparing specifications, production to delivery, from supplier to the consumer. I am a good people person, work hands on, lead by example, motivating my team to successfully achieve targets on time. I have travelled extensively in the UK and Overseas to select and brief suppliers. I understand the
complexity of being creative, against the need to measure cost and the importance of getting the market price right. I enjoy life, am sociable, adaptable and fit in well at all levels.

Freelance clients include:
Disney, Mothercare, Debenhams, Tesco, Marks & Spencer (Zip Project), Woolworths, & Oilily.

I worked 3 days a week. My responsibilities included, trend research, designing the
range, developing tech packs through to fittings.

October 2002 - September 2008

I launched Tickittboo Ltd in 2002 after I returned from Holland. My idea was to
create a brand that was innovative and unique and to pitch this at the individual
high end boutiques where I felt there was a gap in the market. The collection
was predominantly aimed at girls 0-10 years. The business doubled in size year
on year until in 2007 we had projected sales of £500,000 pa with 4 full time and
two part time employees. We sold worldwide, through a network of agents to
200+ shops including, Barneys in New York, Bon Marche in Paris, a major retailer
in Dubai, & boutiques in Japan, Korea, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Australia, Iceland,
Germany, UK and Ireland. We won Fashion Exporter of the year twice in 2005 &
2006. The garments were manufactured in India, China, Mauritius and the UK.
I was personally involved in negotiating prices, hands on with production,
travelling to suppliers and dealing with customers personally, attending trade
shows and managed the team that helped me build such an exciting brand. I
successfully achieved my goals & learnt a great deal about the childrens fashion
business. But designing is my first love and this had become an extremely small
part of my day. In 2008 I took the decision to do what I enjoyed and work
freelance again. My company and designs were featured in Junior Magazine,
Vogue Bambini, Vogue Collezioni and many more.

specification sheets for my senior designer.
