I have been a screenwriter, script / story analyst, marketing strategist and writer on films campaigns for studios and independent film companies, including: CBS Films, Cirque du Soleil (Andrew Adamson/ James Cameron upcoming 3D feature film Worlds Away), Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Fox Searchlight Pictures, Participant Productions, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, DreamWorks SKG, MGM/UA, TriStar Pictures, New Line Cinema, Artisan Entertainment, Focus Features, Morgan Creek Productions, the former PolyGram Filmed Entertainment Group and Gramercy Pictures. As box office analyst for The Times, I was a guest business commentator for CNN's Newsstand and E! Entertainment's E! News Daily.

Senior film writer and finance editor


covering the studios and independents from the production, Wall Street and global perspectives, film festivals and markets including the Cannes International Film Festival and the American Film Market. As a film writer I covered Warner Bros. and MGM. As a business editor, I simultaneously covered the mega-merger of Matsushita Industrial Electric Company / MCA Universal Inc. and the bankruptcies of nearly 30 film companies, specializing in the collapse of MGM, Carolco Pictures and Orion Pictures - their demise triggered by the dubious lending practices of France's nationalized bank Credit Lyonnais, then the world's eighth largest bank and primary lender to the industry at the time. I also assisted in foreign reports and documentaries (France's Canal Plus) on the business.


News and business writer covering politics, government, foreign trade (primarily aerospace, energy, technology and international policies affecting business in the Pacific Rim), medicine, biotechnology, workplace issues and corporate strategy from 1984 to 1990. I also covered China's participation in the Olympics in Los Angeles, the first time the PRC participated in the Olympics since the Communist Revolution. Produced two award-winning series - one challenged the dual powers of the sheriff-coroner and changed law (winner of the State Bar of California Gold Medallion Award ; the other forced a corrupt government official to resign. Another series targeted the fraudulent claims of a major pharmaceutical company's AIDS drug, triggering a Congressional Subcommittee investigation.

Member of the team that won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting on widespread corruption in the sheriff’s department of one of Florida’s largest counties with ties to the late Santo Trafficante, Jr., Tampa’s Cuban mob boss formerly accused of threatening JFK’s life and deeply involved in CIA plots to assassinate Fidel Castro. I was a special projects, general assignments and crime reporter for the paper from 1981 to 1984.
