Sarah trained my 1 year old lab, Sunny, he was wild and couldn't control himself when he left. I knew he was smart and so I sent him to train while I was out of town for 2 weeks. I can now take him anywhere, he's great in the car & in public, he stays right by me, comes when I call him, and he doesn't chew on the carpet or furniture - like he used to! The e-collar is more if an adjustment for the owner than the dog, so you have to be committed to having it on you always and not letting things slip! My favorite thing about my job is seeing the dog-owner relationship and communication improve. It's absolutely heartwarming! I love seeing understanding bloom in the dogs' eyes as they learn how to play the training game. It's amazing to me to see a dog go from zero to hero- I wouldn't change it for the world! (It's just as rewarding to see understanding light up the owner's eyes as I explain the root cause of their dog's behavior and what's really going on! It's a great privilege to be an illuminating light, especially for owners that have been long-struggling with seemingly un-fixable behavior issues such as leash reactivity.)
After working with owners training their own service dogs, I found that many of the practices commonly used in dog training are very outdated and produce long-lasting behavioral issues, including fear and aggression. To train a dog the best way possible, it's essential that there is a very strong foundation of trust, understanding, and eagerness for the "game"! A service dog will only reliably save someone's life if they really want to do it! I want to get the word out about positive and force-free dog training to help all dogs and owners build up their relationship/skills, and to have lots of fun in the process!
All of my practices, from training to handling/care, are all scientifically founded and without negative side-effects of punishment. I use positive reinforcement with an emphasis on building communication, understanding, and trust between dog and handler. All of my training is game-based as well- producing smiles and results alike! A thorough written record of all training sessions and care-visits are kept to ensure the dog is on the right track at all times.
