What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?

The secret to a great dance party is an experienced DJ who's able to read the crowd and give them what they want. While in New York, I did massive film festivals which turned into incredible dance parties. I've done all night dance events. From this I learned how to get a party going, and how to keep it going. The difference is experience, playing what the crowd wants, and not what the DJ likes. I will admit a pet peeve of mine, after doing this for many years, is when a DJ tells you, "I'll get everyone up dancing and out on the dance floor." In all honesty, that's a bit of a stretch. Especially for weddings, I always ask the bride if she feels she has a dancing crowd or a listening crowd. Then I ask, "If your Uncle Harry hasn't danced with his wife in 30 years, what would make us believe he'll suddenly become a party animal the day of your wedding?" I believe in being honest. I encourage people to dance. I get out there and lead the Cupid Shuffle and Cha Cha Slide, and other group dances. Yes, I love to dance and have fun and I enjoy watching the crowd have fun. I do everything to get the party started. But I don't badger or embarrass people. That doesn't make a good party. With me, you'll have a great dance party if people are wanting to party. Will EVERYONE be up on the dance floor? Probably not. Lots of people enjoy listening and will have a perfectly delightful event without visiting the dance floor even once. But if you're looking for an experienced DJ who will get people up and dancing, you're in the right place.

How would you describe your ‘style’?

Having been around for awhile, my musical tastes are very eclectic. I'm never stalled at any particular era. If I'm at a wedding, I play music during cocktails and dinner appropriate to the event. Music people can enjoy and talk over. At a wedding you have two new families coming together, guests from out of town who are connecting again, and people who want to mix and mingle. The music can either encourage, or hinder, that process. My music is appropriate in style and the volume is conducive to conversation. The formalities, such as introduction of the bridal party, 1st dance, toasts, etc, are handled with class and sophistication. Then we can cut loose later and have that rocking dance party. Or, if the bride wants something more reserved, we do that. My style is all about making each event what the client envisions. I'm as comfortable doing a wedding or corporate event as I am playing the newest music for energetic teens at a prom.

What do you love most about your job?

I love making people happy and watching them have fun!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I like to do things right and not the way someone tells me to do it. I go the extra mile to make sure each client is happy. I'm a people person and more concerned with my clients satisfaction than with "the bottom line." Sure, every business has to make money to stay in business, but that's not what motivates me to get out of bed each day. If every customer is happy and satisfied, you'll be successful. Period.

Why should our clients choose you?

Wow. Got an hour? First, all DJ's are NOT the same. Most are part timers who do this for some extra money on the weekends. There's nothing wrong with that. But I'm a full time entertainer. This is my life and my profession. I love what I do. When you call during the day I answer the phone. I'm available day and night, during the week, and on weekends. This business is all about professionalism and experience. It's difficult to match my level of experience. I've been on the radio in New York, have done over 1700 weddings ALONE, in addition to countless parties, proms, corporate events, and grand openings. My son, who is 17, has joined me and shares my passion for this business. Under my supervision, he's been doing all our proms, Sweet 16's, and other teen events. I have TOP quality audio equipment. There are no "good, better, best" packages. That just leads to the up sell. I'm not into that. Every bride and client gets my best performance every time. We have back up equipment for everything. Most DJ's don't. I've been a guest at weddings where the DJ struggled for 2 hours or more trying to get something to work. The party was over. We carry back ups for everything. If something breaks we swap out another piece of equipment in minutes. We carry liability insurance, important to many venues who won't let a DJ without insurance in the door. Our musical library is LEGAL. It's not stolen off the internet or downloaded from You Tube. That means we have high quality music files which sound good. While stealing music seems like a good idea to some, it results in poor sound, breaking the law, and is just plain wrong. Every piece of music we play is purchased and we have the rights to play it at events. You'll love my system. You plan your entire wedding or event online, search our music database, communicate with me, pay deposits, etc, with a credit card right though the portal on the site. In short, people choose us because we get the job done right. When someone hires me, my goal is for them to say, after their event is over, "that guy was great! He was easy to work with and worth every penny! I'd recommend his service to anyone." So, why should you hire me? Because I care about what I do and ... well ... I've gotten pretty dang good at it!
