The Rev. Dr. Robert W. Bosworth is a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor with a doctorate (PhD) in Counseling Psychology and over 35 years of experience. The following excerpts from his website (www.Dr-Bosworth.com) may be helpful in learning more about him and the type of counseling he does.... About Pastoral Counseling and Dr. Bosworth Pastoral Counseling is a branch of counseling in which psychologically trained ministers provide therapy services. Counselors often integrate modern psychological thought and method with traditional religious training in an effort to address psycho-spiritual issues in addition to the traditional spectrum of counseling services. Pastoral Counseling is unique in that the counselor helps the client understand life issues in the context of faith. Pastoral Counseling uses both psychological and theological resources to deepen its understanding of whatever issues a client presents. Pastoral Counselors frequently work with Psychiatrists when medication and/or further evaluation is indicated. While Pastoral Counseling is his approach, Dr worth has Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and atheists in his practice, all of whom have benefitted from his help. (Don't let the "pastoral" part of counseling scare you!) Pastoral Counseling is particularly successful in treating anxiety, depression, obsessive/compulsive disorders, and addiction in many forms. It is particularly appropriate for Marriage and Family counseling with people who profess a faith in God and who wish to lead a life that is pleasing to Him. Don't be confused: Pastoral Counseling is a great deal more than simply looking into the Bible and hearing the counselor say, "Just do what it tells you to do." There are many complex issues in every marriage and in every family. Pastoral Counseling can help a client discover what needs changing and, after that, look to God for help through not only the Bible, but through what He has made known in psychology, business and other disciplines. There are lots of simplistic Biblical "fixes" to marriage available and so-called pastoral counselors to offer them, but you won't find that here! Pastoral counseling isn’t for everyone; it’s appropriate and helpful for people of faith, even though it works with atheists and agnostics as well! In a word that’s losing its religious and spiritual bearings, this type of therapy is very successful in restoring clients to health and well-being in a way that intentionally connects with their ultimate being as creatures, made in the image and likeness of a loving God. For people who identify with a religious tradition, pastoral counseling can help put them in touch with who they are and who they were created to be; it can help them grow into the emotional, psychological and spiritual "best version of themselves" possible. About Dr. Bosworth Dr. Bosworth earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Divinity degree from Nashotah House Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Pillsbury College. He retired from full-time parish priesthood in the Episcopal Church after twenty-five years of active ministerial service, including parishes in Texas and Kentucky, a 1,000 child K-12 parish day school, extensive teaching and preaching, and a missionary placement outside the United States. He and his wife, Bettie, are active in ther Anglican Church, a conservative expression of what was once the Episcopal Church in the United States. While he is an Anglican, his practice is split between Protestants, Catholics and non-believers. All clients/patients are treated with equal dignity, being created in the image and likeness of God. Dr. Bosworth is a member in good standing of the Catholic Psychotherapists' Association and the National Christian Counselors Association. He is the author of a devotional book centered around the Twenty-Third Psalm entitled "Think on these Things" (2008), and "Living Your 'Happily Ever After:' Practical Steps to Enhance and Even Save Christian Marriages" (2014), both of which are available on the Books page of his website and Amazon.com. He and his wife have been married for over thirty-two years and have a son, Robert III, who recently married Maris (Deddens), both with Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance. Maris and Robert work in Arizona with the Pheonix Opera. About the Cost of Counseling: Dr. Bosworth's Counseling is a volunteer ministry: he is disabled/retired, and not paid for his work. Rather, he bases individual/family fees on what an individual/family can afford, and then donates those "fees" to charity. 100%. Clients who can afford it, pay $125/session. ($150-200/hour is the area's average rate.) With those who cannot afford to pay full price, he negotiates a rate both can accept. It is his fervent desire that no one who wishes and needs counseling will be turned away because of their ability to pay. (He does not accept insurance.) Likewise with his books: Bosworth donates all the proceeds he receives to not-for-profit organizations to benefit those in society who need it most: those caught up in natural disasters, the sick and the needy, and those in need of counseling but cannot afford it. What do you love most about your job?

I love watching clients achieve their goals! It's amazing how God works miracles every day through good therapy and compliant clients. I also love that my practice is a win-win: many people who cannot afford therapy get help here, I get to use the gifts and education God has made possible for me and, last but not least, it's fun to write checks to other charities and empower the work they do through the fees I donate.

What inspired you to start your own business?

As a disabled person, I found retirement frustrating. I was only 48 when I was forced to retire from full-time parochial ministry. I could, however, go back to school and find a way to continue my ministry. That's what my practice is all about. I benefit in offering my time and talent; clients benefit because my policy is to turn no one away from counseling because they cannot afford to pay high fees.

Why should our clients choose you?

Over thrity years of pastoral experience as an Anglican priest in parishes, schools, and in foreign missions has prepared me to identify with and empathize with what the Book of Common Prayer calls "all sorts and conditions of men (and women)." My post-graduate degree in Counseling Psychology helps me put the compassionate pastoral care I provide with state-of-the-art clinical techniques . When one combines the best parts of clinical counseling with pastoral care, miracles of healing take place. I'm willing to walk that road with anyone who really wants to achieve the kind of life God created them for. There are other reasons why I might be the counselor for you: check out www.Dr-Bosworth.com and see if you think we might make a good "fit" as counselor and client.
