What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

The world is a beautiful place and we are each beautiful people. I love to capture moments in time and when I'm not capturing moments in time, I'm creating moments in time to capture. The secret to taking a great photograph is being aware of your surroundings and being willing to push the boundaries in the creative process.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

I like to make sure I'm 100% on the same page as my client before starting a new project. I feel this is important so as to not waste anyone's time or money. First and foremost, I would like to get to know my client a little better, even if it is a 15 minute sit-down prior to a shoot. This helps me learn a lot about my client, much of which helps me during the photo shoot in getting my subject to relax. This is important to get a good flow going as nervousness will show in an image. Beyond some basic personal questions for the shoot, I might ask questions such as: 1) for what purpose does the client intend to use the photos I'm creating as this allows me to tailor the photo shoot custom to the client's needs; 2) what preferences, if any, does the client have for the photo shoot and the end results as again, this helps me to get on the same page with my client to create from them exactly what they envision.

What do you love most about your job?

The uncertainty. I sometimes have an idea in mind before I walk onto set but many times its not until I walk on set that I start having creative flashes of ideas and they begin to flow like a waterfall. It's an amazing experience to be able to express them in a finished product.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have been drawing and painting since the age of 6, and I don't mean finger painting! I started with oils, moved to acrylics and dabbed in watercolor. Then I picked up a camera on my first trip to Europe in 2001. The rest is history. I only decided to formalize my business a few years ago, although I have been shooting since 2001.

Why should our clients choose you?

I love personalities. I respect that everyone is completely different and its great to get to know each individual person. I tend to quickly adapt and cater to each person I know. I love what I do when I have a camera in my hand and the job of creating the end result of something my client envisions. I'm dedicated, responsible and personable. I've been told by most of my clients that I am one of their favorite photographers because I have such a positive, "can-do" attitude and because I'm easygoing while at the same time, demonstrating that I'm very genuine and a hard-worker. I'm a creator. Let me tell your story.
