Learning about people's lives and how their inner worlds function is really what draws me to this work the most, as well as the feeling of connection and personal change that happens when people really dive into the life journey that is "deepening understanding of ourselves and others."
This felt like the best fit to me, rather than participating in an existing organization or trying to find a job that would allow me to do the kind of work I want to do. By starting my own business, I have the freedom to define for myself how I want to work with clients, and what my part of the relationship looks like.
Ideally, clients should choose me if they feel a connection with what I have written about myself, and think that they might benefit from working with me with regards to whatever their primary goals are for seeking counseling. The success of counseling work often depends on the strength of the relationship between counselor and counselee, including how much trust and common ground there is. For this reason I would highly recommend looking for a counselor that feels like a good fit, whether that counselor is me or somebody else.
At the moment, the vast majority if not all of my work is going to be done remotely because of the pandemic. I do counseling via zoom appointments, with hours of approximately 1 pm to 6 pm Monday through Friday. More details about my work is available on www.clientcenteredcounseling.net.
I have regretted the need to focus on counseling people remotely because of Covid-19 because there is a special quality to meeting people in person, but this does allow me to see people who are geographically far away. May we all recover well from our pandemic experiences and move forward with our lives.
