‘21 Certificate of Excellence

I offer private, in-home dog training to Littleton and surrounding areas. There are three steps to my process for improving the way your dog's behavior fits with your life: 1. First, I consult with you to create the best training plan for your dog and situation. 2. Next, I train the difficult, urgent, or especially important parts of the plan directly with your dog. 3. Lastly, we teach your dog to use his or her new skills in your everyday life - so they work for you and not just for me. In my years of experience training thousands of dogs, I've found that this process is much more effective and saves owners a significant amount of time compared to the traditional "show-you-how" (coaching) model that most programs still use. In addition to using a system focused on producing complete solutions efficiently, I am a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and complete continuing education, so you can count on my training techniques to being safe, ethical, and well-informed. It is our mission, and a privilege, to serve dog owners with highest quality training available.

What do you love most about your job?

My favorite part of training dogs is getting to see a dog "turn the corner" and truly integrate newly learned skills into the situations that used to trouble him or her and the owner, as well as seeing the owner take over that skill and connect with their dog in a new way as they understand the dog's motivation and discover how to lead them through difficult situations.

What inspired you to start your own business?

My degree program in college was in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law, but I was fascinated by the way that humans live with the world - and other animals - around them. I happened to coincidentally live with my sister during a summer when she had adopted a puppy and I was just starting to study animal behavior as a science.

I quickly learned that animal behavior research has amassed incredibly valuable information for dog owners over the past few decades, but that most of the information reaching most dog owners was out-dated, erroneous, or otherwise misleading. Ever since, it has been my mission to learn as much as I can about the ways dogs learn and behave and to help dog owners apply that information to live smoother, safer, more enjoyable lives with their dogs.

I am grateful for the experience I received from teaching group classes, board-and-train programs, service dog training, and specialized training with other programs, but I like running my own in-home, private training business because I have the most flexibility to help dogs and owners with different sets of constraints.
