The main steps I take to ensure the dance floor is active all night are the following:
1) I communicate with the clients before the event to get an idea of what their guests will respond to the most.
2) I collect all of the client's requested music along with the most contemporary hits to ensure I am fully equipped to rock the show!
3) I play group dance songs like the Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, etc. to get everyone on the dance floor.
4) I encourage the crowd with playful remarks to get everyone loose!
My style of mixing is smooth and seamless. I string along similar songs in groups, but I switch it up soon enough to keep the energy up and the crowd engaged. I travel through various tempos according to the different times of the event, resulting in energy levels in the music that are appropriate for the energy level of the event. Musically, I play whatever the clients request. If it's up to me, I enjoy playing 60s rock, 70s funk & disco, 80 new wave, and 90s hip hop. I also enjoy playing underground dance music to the appropriate crowds.
The thing I love most about my job is being a part of a couple's wedding day. It is a day filled with love, warmth, and joy. I enjoy being trusted with the responsibility of facilitating the flow of events and making the celebration a night they'll never forget!
My old friend began making money teaching voice lessons. When she started doing that, I was inspired to make money using my skills. That, along with my ambition to be self-employed led me to begin DJ/MCing events.
