What a pleasant surprise my visit to Vera's Kitchen was. This place is a jewel and a wonderful addition to Old Town Manassas. I've lived in Manassas for the past six years and this was probably one of the best dining experience I've had here. The Yelp reviews are spot on. The Ethiopian food at Vera's is excellent and so fresh. The portions are generous and beautifully presented. A big thanks to Eddie for his outstanding customer service. It's almost like dining in his home and you're the guest of honor. I implore you to please give Vera's a try. Restaurants this good need to be supported in our city. We had lunch at Vera's Kitchen a few days ago and we had an amazing time. We ordered the soups - lentil soup and the soup of the day, vegetable sambusas, rainbow wrap, and tibs. Everything was delicious - especially the vegetable sambusas and tibs. The Tibs are really flavorful and tender with injera and/or rice. The Ethiopian coffee was amazing too that I wish they serve it in a bigger pot. The service is very good and the ambiance is impressive. I couldn't wait to be back and try more dishes they offer. First time for Ethiopian food. Went on a friend's recommendation because they have a good variety of naturally gluten-free dishes. Did not disappoint! Ginger boost tea hit the spot. Cucumber water was very refreshing. We split the Mozzarella Martini appetizer. Beautiful presentation. Simple.Hubby doesn't need gluten free so he had the creamy chicken pasta. Huge portion. He cleaned the plate!I couldn't decide between the lamb or beef so the manager said I could have a little of both! Still can't decide which was better. Served on a big fresh piece of injera with hot sauce and different lentil mashes. I cleaned my plate, too. Overall, very flavorful and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back! More...

Cute little spot! It was a nice day out, so we decided to eat outside. Our server was very friendly and very attentive. He said it had been open for a little over a year! My husband and I went on a Sunday around 2 pm. When we arrived there was no other customers there. Inside the restaurant felt warm and muggy, so we opted to sit outside which was a much better idea. The water was infused with cucumbers, lemon and mint (delicious!), the injira was cut a little thicker and felt firmer than another Ethiopian restaurant we go to (Tabor). The tibs were seasoned well and tasted great! And the sides-chickpeas, cabbage, mushrooms, etc. were very yummy. I wish there was more variety of fresh veggie sides on our dish. Other Ethiopian restaurants will have freshly cut mix of beets, tomatoes, carrots and other things. Those would've made an awesome palette cleanser, cus it's a little cold & fresh ya know?Overall, not a bad spot! This place is open on the weekends and it's located next to a winery in Old Town Manassas-a short little walk away from the train tracks. Try it out! More...

A must go in historic Manassas! I am kicking myself I even waited this long to go, but rest assured we will be regulars here. First it is family owned and they are the friendliest people! The location itself is clean and quiet.I loved the cucumber water they give you, so refreshing. We ordered the hummus, vegetable Inerja and the beef tibs. Everything tasted amazing! So fresh and healthy and you get a lot for the money you pay. We have been to handful of Ethiopian places around the greater DC area and we both agreed Veras is the best!Highly recommend if you are reading this review that you stop reading and get to Veras. Stopped in today for the first time.  My wife and I were immediately greeted by Adiam and the wonderful smells from the kitchen.  We had never had Ethiopian food before so we were a little reserved.  Adiam quickly and precisely explained the menu and the options.  Since Vera's Kitchen has numerous typical American dishes as well, we were truly torn on what to select.  That said, we wanted to experience something different.  Adiam explained Ethiopian dishes and how they were made.  After making our selections, the smells from the kitchen only got better.  When Veronica had finished preparing the food both she and Adiam brought the dishes to the table.  The presentation was great and the food was phenomenal!  From stepping through the door to our leaving, the service was great, the food was second to none and the entire experience was  excellent.  We definitely recommend Vera's Kitchen to anyone wanting to experience and learn about Ethiopian foods and sharing a great meal in a clean restaurant with a great cook and staff. What a delicious surprise!  We were seated at a beautiful hammered copper table. We didn't even open the menu.  We just asked for  an authentic Ethiopian meal. We were rewarded with a fantastic appetizer, a wonderful array of vegetarian choices (served on a bed of bread that made for a great finish to the meal), and moist cooked beef in a savory sauce that was very flavorful. We had hot spices on the side that the guys enjoyed, but I thought it had plenty of good flavor without the heat. One person in our party finished his meal with an Ethiopian pan roasted coffee which he said was smooth and some of the best coffee he's ever tasted. My one regret is that I didn't have room for Vera's Brownies. If you've never had Ethiopian fare, your missing out. Get yourself to Vera's Kitchen, where they'll take great care of you. More...

Most other reviews have said it all. Great for vegetarians and carnivores. Went last night for the first time and had a 5 star experience. Food was awesome and service was warm, friendly and exceptional. Great old fashioned mom and pop type establishment. We started with the hummus with crispy injera chips and mozzarella martini. Hummus was not your typical middle Eastern style but had a great mustardy twang. Mozzarella was caprese style. Wife had the vegetarian beyaynetu which was phenomenal. Daughter had veggie rainbow wrap and I had Vera's tibs. Tried the ginger tea and Ethiopian coffee to finish the meal. Everything was full of flavor. Per Adiam's recommendations we ate without forks  and used the injera bread to pick up our food for a traditional Ethiopian experience.  Injera was light and fluffy and almost like a wheat pancake. Vera's tibs were beef tips with tomatoes, chopped jalapeños and a homemade spicy ketchup that alone was worth the drive alone. Veronica brought out a kale salad for us the was simple kale with dressing but also very tasty. It wasn't on the menu and it was the little extras like this that made the experience special. Food was so good I went back today to get the beyaynetu for lunch. My wife and daughter took home leftovers after dinner but my plate was clean and I felt left out when they were eating lunch.     We frequent Old Town Manassas for lunch and dinner but Vera's is a little off the main drag and even we missed it for several months. Several other restaurants have been in this location for short times apparently without much long term success. So come on Manassas and Prince William county. Come out and support Veronica, Adiam and Vera's Kitchen and help make it a long term success. Just come in and try the beyaynetu or the tibs and you will be hooked.  The service will keep you coming back too. More...

Wow, if this is not the BEST food in town. My boyfriend lives in the neighborhood and we've eaten at just about every spot. Vera's is a little off the beaten path of the historic downtown BUT so completely worth it. We came in on Sunday morning and were greeted by one of the owners warmly, who sat us in the cool, breezy outside area. We wanted ice coffee to start, and even though they didnt specifically have it on the menu, they happily made some for us. The vibes here are incredibly friendly and sweet. Now, onto the food! I had the smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers on a lightly toasted and delicious plain bagel. The presentation was lovely, complete with two slice of apple. Boyfriend had the omelette and I was jealous!! It was SO smokey and flavorful. He was also given two slice of wheat toast and some avacado to spread.Even before we finished our breakfast, we had already decided to order more food to take home for lunch. He ordered the pasta salad and I ordered the tuna sandwich on ciabatta bread- Holy moly were they both INCREDIBLE. The flavors that Vera's packs into the seemingly most simple dishes is out of this world! We are already planning on becoming regulars to this spot. We felt like friends of the business when we left, and were pleasantly invited to come back and enjoy some traditional Ethiopian dishes, coffee and dessert. We will be back with pleasure and incredibly happy to make this a tradition-weekend spot! See you soon! More...
