About

Well, according to my longtime clients, it's the quality and customer service that most sets me apart from others in the area of the greater DC Metro area.
Most of my work is in architectural and real estate photography, but I also offer headshots.

Q&As

Knowing your camera, the principles of photography and light, and the most important part: Reading and understanding your subject. Some say, 'A room is a room is a room'. But that's not quite true. Every room has characteristics. Be it the color, the light coming in through windows or doors, the lighting used in the room, the furnishing and the placing of the furniture etc. That's as far as property photography goes. Commercial architectural photography is more focused on the architecture itself: The lines, the stability of a structure, the adornments, the placing and sizing of architectural elements such as windows and doors, stairs, support beams etc.
In headshot photography, it is important to get to know the person one photographs just enough to get that professional image by posing the person properly, and by finding the right impression. Creating a personal connection is 90% of the shot.

What/ who are the images for? Where will the project take place? Are there specific details I should know about? Do you have specific ideas of what you wish to see in the image? What is your budget? A budget can always be customized and accommodated.
There are many more questions to be asked depending on the project.

When beginning a new project, my creative process begins as soon as all contract details are agreed upon. I will research past projects and photography the client had done. Researching the site for property and architectural photography is crucial to determine what time of day works best. It's not ideal to have the sun behind the building, yet above the roof line.
In property and architectural photography, I will walk around and throughout the building to 'get a feeling' for the size, character, angles, light etc.
In headshot photography, I obviously won't walk around the person :-) But I will have a conversation to get to know just a little about the person.
These are the cornerstones of the creative process, which are also taken into the editing process to achieve the perfect image.

It all depends on the project. Most questions will be asked when a new project is discussed.
I might need access information to the property, when final images are needed... It really just varies from project to project.

My love is for architecture and design. The various interpretations of space for different uses simply fascinates me. In architecture, design, form and function are integral. But there is also the element of innovation; new materials, new styles, new methods.

I began my photography career as an apprentice in Germany, straight out of school. Covering everything from still life, portrait, passport, wedding, product, property photography was all part of the process. Alongside the physics behind photography. I am old enough to have learned analog photography with all the aspects to know what aperture to use when in combination with the shutterspeed and the ISO, which film to use for what, the developing and printing processes etc. The jump to digital was not the easiest, but once I realized Ansel Adams would have been all over it, I made sure to learn all about it and take advantage of the medium.

Self-praise doesn't come easy for me, but: I know what I'm doing. And I do it well.
Aside from that, I highly value customer service: Punctuality, dependability, honesty, integrity.

Most of my services can be provided remotely. Images are delivered online for review and receiving the final product. The client does not have to be at the project site, unless it's a headshot of course. In case of product photography, products can be mailed or delivered to my studio for photography.

Before vaccinations were possible, I asked to have as few people as possible at the project site. Wearing masks and keeping distance were mandatory. Once vaccinations became available, I took advantage and am now vaccinated and boostered. I still prefer to be by myself at a shoot, or only have the client with me.

Services

Whether commercial or residential projects, I will capture your projects in their best light.

Every listing deserves to be photographed with the utmost care. It doesn't matter whether it's a luxury or a modest listing.
After all: A picture tells a thousand stories. Also that of you as a realtor. When you inquire to get that listing, you want to showcase that you know how to market it! And consistency is key. Consistent good professional photography can garner you the higher end listings!

First impressions matter. Your snapshot from your vacation 10yrs ago will not quite cut it. While probably very nice, it's unlikely to give the impression of you as a professional. I can make you look good, professional and trustworthy so you can represent yourself well.
