Trattoria Da Vittorio

Vittorio catered my daughter's Bat Mitzvah and I couldn't thank him more.  With all the things you need to worry about when planning a Bat Mitzvah, he took care of the food and so much more.  Originally we hired him to cater the dinner but when he found out I was looking for a caterer for the luncheon at the temple, he took on the task of catering a full Jewish feast.  AND when it came to the night of, he acted as our event coordinator and handled all the other vendors so we didn't have to.  We got so many compliments on the food for both the luncheon and the dinner.  He and his staffed ordered and picked up all the silverware and linens, set everything up, manned the food and the bar all night, took care of the guests refilling water/wine, and cleaned everything up.  We all know how good his food is from the restaurant but he can also take care of an event with 125+ guests.  Highly recommended!  I'd give him 6 stars if I could.  Thank for for making our daughter's Bat Mitzvah so special. This is probably one of the best Italian places I have ever been. I literally have nothing bad to say about it. The food was amazing my favorite from the three was the pizza. I have been coming to this restaurant for about 3 years now and every time I'm left with a feeling a home. While some of the the mediocre reviews below criticize them over not being able to make the deliver distance true lover of pasta and Italian food knows that it should be eaten straight out of the kitchen. Beyond that some of my favorite dishes are the Pear Gorgonzola at the time I first had that sauce was with gnocchi they have since changed it.  There pizza is wonderful and classic, I recently had the ravioli with black truffle sauce and was blown out the park. We arrived at Trattoria da Vittorio around 6-PM on a Friday evening and they were really busy.  We had no reservation and were lucky enough to get the last seats at the counter.  Even with the crazy dinner hour our waiter was great, taking the time to explain the (yes we we're cheap) even the cheapest wines and specials.  Three of us were all pleased with the food.  I had the risotto with sausage and it was likely the best restaurant risotto I've ever had.  My friends had the eggplant parmesan and a fish dish and were pleased.  I'll be back but not at restaurant rush hour.  Great local spot...great waiter. Stopped in this restaurant for dinner . We were seated in a timely manner and everyone was very nice the minute we walked in the door . Our server approached our table, asked if we have been here before , since it was our first time he made some excellent recommendations. I decided to order the lasagna at it was incredible ! Best lasagna I've had it was very flavorful and had such an unique amazing taste so creamy and juicy I loved it !. As we waited for our food our server ensured we had everything. We needed . My waiter Daniele also recommended a wine to pair with my meal and also tried the white truffle, it was my first time trying it and it was amazing ! The wine went perfect with my meal .After our meal we decided to have their cheesecake, had a layer of chocolate and it just melts in your mouth ! Hospitality, Service, Consistency, Value. We eat here from time to time, and each time we get the same great hospitality and accommodation. As parents we can feel like we are having a nice adult meal while our kids enjoy Mickey Mouse pizza. What's more is that the staff is excellent with catering orders. Their meatball and paninis are a hit with my family at parties. They are quick and prepare everything with care and quality and at great value. And the icing on top, when I messed up my catering order by accidentally calling it in at the San Carlos location, they "ate" my mistake and prepared a fresh order for me in 15 minutes. Some friends of mine brought me here for an early lunch when I was last in town. They have a couple young kiddos and this place was very accommodating for a group with kids. Her three year old ordered a kid's pizza and they made it shaped like Mickey Mouse - adorable. They had brought out fresh bread and fresher olive oil to dip it in - very high quality oil. I ordered the meatball sandwich. It came with a side salad (I did the Caesar, which they serve with real anchovies so be prepared if you aren't a fan) and was served on what they call pizza bread. It was a fresh bread pocket and the meatballs were tasty. They put burrata cheese on the sandwich, which is soft and buttery and added great flavor but it was cold which was weird against an otherwise warm sandwich. My friend got the artichoke salad with chicken. I stole a bite of the artichokes which were super tasty. She normally gets the salmon and says it's very good here. Update for catering- Vittorio catered our wedding and it was absolutely perfect! Vittorio helped us coordinate rentals and the servers during our reception were extremely professional and they went above and beyond to make the day perfect! Guests loved the food and there was plenty to go around. I highly recommend using them for your catering needs. Restaurant review-This is my partner and I's absolute FAVORITE restaurant. We come here 1-3 times a month because it's so great! We're totally nit picky foodies and never ever have any complaints about the restaurant. The service alone deserves 5 stars. The waiters are fantastic and always seem like they genuinely enjoy their job. Vittorio himself is often there and always greets us as does the rest of the staff. It really has a wonderful, family feel to it. And the food. THE FOOD. I was raised with a grandfather who is a first generation Sicilian American so I am really picky when it comes to Italian food! The food tastes like something that would be handmade. The bread and olive oil they bring is always yummy. The olive oil tastes like the good stuff you'd actually get in Italy. My partner and I always get the bruschetta with burrata and prosciutto and it's always delicious. They don't skimp on the burrata and the prosciutto is very good. We also really love the bruschetta with nduja. Their polpette are wonderful and their caprese has burrata which really makes it better! Our favorite entree is far and away the fiocchetti. The contrast of the sweet pear with the more pungent Gorgonzola is heavenly. I could eat it everyday of the week. My partner loves spaghetti and meatballs and raves about theirs. We also love their lasagne. They have cioppino on their specials menu sometimes and my partner said it was excellent. Basically, everything we've eaten here is fantastic. Their dessert is really yummy and while I usually go for their classic tiramisu, I always have a hard time deciding what to get. Vittorio just catered my sister's wedding this past weekend and it was amazing!! Vittorio is so kind and willing to go above and beyond. He took care of organizing all of the rentals needed, brought at least 10 servers with him and bartenders and the food was amazing! My sister chose to do everything served family style and everything came out hot and was refilled promptly! He's willing to work with you on whatever you need and is very reasonably priced. It put my sister greatly at ease to know there was one less thing for her to worry about and Vittorio had things taken care of. His servers were so professional and a glass was never left empty. This restaurant is always cozy, delicious and fun!  Its got a great energy and always bumping dinner time.. so get there early.  I noticed all the customers never want to leave because they are having so much fun and getting smashed.  I think it's because the staff is Italian and friendly and people think they are on vacation...the service is flawless, even if you have a baby.  Also they  will hook you up with a high chair and convenient seating and kids menu...yay!  It's weird my baby loves this place too..The food is wow !!  They start you off with a basket of fresh bread and real olive oil.       Kale salad was fresh and tasty.       My husband had squid ink pasta and he wouldn't share, but he said it was al dente and perfect      Calamari was crispy (hard to find).        Eggplant Parmesan is the authentic and always delish every time I come here.        Oh, and the red wine, I'll have another glass!!! Had a girls night out here and it was so much fun! The food is delicious and the waiters are super chill. Our waiter Nicholo (I think that's how you spell it) was very accommodating. He kept us entertained and constantly checked on us to make sure we were doing well. Let me start by saying the Aperol Spritz here is bomb. This would be in the top 5 Aperol spritz that I've had. The glass is huge! I had two and it was strong enough to give me a good buzz. The risotto of the day was creamy and the perfect texture. The lasagna had a nice outer crust but not burnt on the sides. I had the salmon mascarpone bruschetta and the burrata bruschetta. Toppings were phenomenal but the bread could use some work. It was crunch yet stale. I ended up just scrapping the toppings only to eat. we got tiramisu at the end of our meal and it was spongy and creamy. Ya girls didn't speak a word while earring the tiramisu. It was that good! I've been here twice.  First time was for my bday dinner.  Second time was for a friend's bday lunch.  First visit was 5 star. Great service and everything we ordered was perfect.  The pizza was especially good and well priced.  However, my second trip was lackluster - more like a 3 star.  My friend loved his pasta carbonara, but my clams linguine was extremely bland and I had to add a lot of salt to have some flavor.  The meatballs appetizer was nothing special and not worth the price ($10 for 3 small meatballs?). Although our server was friendly and comp'ed a bday slice of tiramisu, he wasn't up to par.  When we requested to change tables because the sun was shining straight into my eyes, he moved us but didn't move our menus and waters.  So, my 70 year old friend (being a gentleman for me), who's not the most mobile, walked across the room and moved it all over.  I will give it one more try in hopes my 2nd trip was an off day. We just went in for a dessert & limoncello but they only have a wine and beer license. Not a big deal, so we start to sit at the bar but it's really noisy, and the maire'  D  was kind and offered us a seat in a quieter window seat. We ordered a chocolate torte and (2) glasses of port. My favorite local restaurant. We've been coming here since they opened-for weekend brunch, happy hour, evening dinner... we are always greeted warmly by Vittorio and his staff. Niccolo has taken particularly amazing care of us over the years - he knows our preferences and often surprises us with delightful twists on the menu. I have some dietary challenges and they are so gracious about making delicious food that works for me - even if it's different than what's on the menu. Simply outstanding!!  The food was great and the service even better.  In fact, we stumbled into this restaurant that evening.  We've eaten in West Portal many times, but never tried it before.  That was our loss as it is now on the top of my list for West Portal restaurants.I was particularly pleased with how they were able to customize the dishes to our likes.  I wanted gluten-free, which they had, and my wife wanted vegetarian with mushrooms.  The server, Davide, was very knowledgeable and able to offer us both what we wanted.I had the gluten-free pasta with the calabrese sauce, which was one of the best pasta sauces I've ever had. Went to go to the San Carlos location because, well, my brother-in-law chose it. The waiter was a pretty good guy; I liked him.
