Lovely little family run restaurant for breakfast and lunch. The menu is just right for enough variety plus ensuring the food is fresh and prepared with great care. Crispy hash browns, perfectly executed medium poached eggs, corned beef has with real, high-quality meat, and excellent country gravy. The wait staff were friendly, energetic, and engaging. Food came out promptly. Great music in background. What more do you want? Will definitely return when we are back in town! More...

I'd like to give this place 6 stars. It simply and I mean simple meets all of my criteria for breakfast.  I cant wait to try lunch here. Here are the gotta haves: fresh squeezed oj, home made corner beef hash, coffee from the Rostery blended special for the wooden spoon, and friendly people. Not a chain. Go here and enjoy often! Always friendly, food is made with love and care, and the biscuits and croissants are made fresh. Started eating the teriyaki wrap and it is amazing, honestly the best wrap I've had. I'm a hash man. Whenever I try a new breakfast restaurant I always go for the hash. I feel that if they have good hash everything else will be good too.  The Wooden Spoon does not disappoint in the corned beef hash category, in fact they offer 2 options - the regular hash and the "angry Irishman"  which is hash with fresh jalapenos.    What makes their hash so good is the corned beef that they use.  it's full of flavor and is not dried out.  I've been to other breakfast joints that use cheap, canned corned beef and it's gross.  The interior is small, and on a cold day try to sit away from the door otherwise you will get a winter draft up your backside all day. A girlfriend and I wanted to grab a Saturday breakfast and catch up, but we wanted to stay fairly close to home.  The Wooden Spoon has been on my list since my husband and I moved to this part of town, so we decided to give it a try.  It's a small space, and you may have a bit of a wait depending what time of the morning you go.  We got there around 11 and had a short wait.  When we were seated at a small table we had a friendly waitress greet us and take our drink orders.  We tried their coffee, which was very good.  My friend ordered an omelette and I had the egg croissant sandwich with an over hard egg, bacon and Vermont cheddar and hash browns. The food was very good.  Just the right amount, not massive portions, which I appreciate.  My sandwich was so yummy, and my friend really enjoyed her omelette, which looked delicious, light and fluffy.  I also ordered the corn beef hash with eggs sunny side up and sourdough toast to take home for my husband at his request.  He devoured it.  The only room for improvement was the service.  Our waitress disappeared for a while at one point (might have been her lunch time) so we ended up with a different server part way through our meal.  He wasn't as observant and wasn't refilling coffee or water.  Otherwise, this was a nice breakfast experience.  We'll definitely be back. How many times have I driven past this little joint?  I am mostly certain that I never even saw the place.  I think it had one of those Harry Potter spells on it where you just didn't notice.  So now let's get this changed!  Anyone who knows the area knows that Tequila Harry's is right next door serving Mexican, the mostly unnamed but delicious Greek Cuisine place is in the same strip.  The fancy Italian place is on the other corner of the same strip mall.  And Gert's is catercorner across the street serving up soups.  Now you know where it is.. dont cha... and let me tell you it is in good company. This little cafe serves breakfast and brunch.  Great little sandwiches, fluffy pancakes, Delicious muffins, breakfast of all kinds, coffee, juice, etc...  I couldn't decide while I was here what I wanted so ended up with an easy egg, hash brown casserole, and biscuits and gravy!  It was such a fantastic meal that I was hard pressed to stop even when I ran out of space in my stomach... actually I was hard pressed to stop when I ran out of food!Stop by and give this place a try.  It is one of those chances that we have to support the "little" guy that is doing it right!  Make sure after you swing in that you drop a line out to the rest of us on Yelp and let us know what you thought and what you had.Thanx for reading and keep on eatin! A very quaint mom-and-pop place! The interior is kind-of small so seating may be limited during prime time. Not the best location for parties larger than six. The food was simple and good. Their menu has all the basics for breakfast, a simple lunch menu, and some interesting menu items like the panwich, the angry irishmen, etc. My boyfriend tried their panwich seeing that it sounded interesting and new. It was described as an egg and bacon sandwich between two slices of pancakes, sliced into wedges for dipping. Disclaimer: the bacon is actually bacon bits mixed into the pancake batter, and not strips of bacon. This dish ended up being more filling than expected and my boyfriend wasn't able to finish the whole dish. It was interesting that the bacon bits were part of the pancake batter; it gave the pancakes a flavor of bacon, but lacked the crispy texture of bacon that we both missed. However, this dish was simple and good!I had their philly cheesesteak sandwich with a side of fries. I had ordered a half and wished I had gotten the full sandwich! This dish was simple, flavorful, and full of meat and veggies. My favorite part, however, were the fries and the dipping sauce they came with. My boyfriend liked the sandwich so much he ate half of mine! Needless to say, this place was a decent place for brunch. The prices for the dishes were within reason, however the price of the sides made us hesitate a little. We will definitely come back for brunch sometime and also recommend this place for people!Of note, there's a deal for free fries with an order of sandwich when you check in on Yelp. The owner of the establishment told me that they had stopped accepting this offer years ago, but allowed me to go ahead and accept this offer. The owners and employees here were so friendly and kind and made sure your experience went well. More...

When the start of your day demands breakfast, you tend to have an idea of what you want.  We had made a choice to originally go to Denny's, which was packed and no one acknowledged that we (or the several other parties near us) had even arrived.  I found The Wooden Spoon here on Yelp as one of the places closest to us with breakfast options, and decide to give it a try.  We were immediately greeted and told that there was a small wait (which ended up being roughly 5 minutes and we were quoted 15).  The staff was insanely friendly, despite their being busy. We had a seat and took a look at the zen simple menu, eventually deciding on Corned Beef and Eggs with sourdough toast.  The wait wasn't very long and the portions we're fairly generous (even for a large guy like me).  The thing that amazed me most is that the Corned Beef Hash had a very good flavor without tasting like a salt lick.  The eggs were cooked perfectly and even the coffee tasted good straight up (black, no sugar, which is something I never do so kudos to them).  Even the manager stopped and took a moment to chat with us.  Not in the obligatory manager way, but a "Hey bud, how are ya?" way.  If I have any criticism, it that their seating is limited but the food is, in my opinion, well worth the wait.  We live in Springfield, but will definitely be back.
